@EtoileNuage I think it will be 1 ending, but not all scenes shown depending on player choice. CT fans can experience an ending with scenes removed so they can retain their Tifa fantasy, while the true ending will reveal a happy ending for Cloud.

If you flip it around and say the japanese line is now 'i love you' then the meaning of gratitude from 'thank you' is gone. Yuna was expressing gratitude, a send off, her true feelings restrained.

When you overly prioritize semantics instead of sentiment, that’s how you end up arguing that Yuna doesn’t say “I love you” and actually says “arigato” to Tidus—when the whole point is the emotion behind her statement.

@CloudxAerith part of the parallel with lenne is that these words were not exchanged so Yuna tries to help Lenne convey it in which Yuna resonates with. its a disaster mistranslation since it became a central story of X-2 that Yuna/Lenne both desire the opportunity to express their feelings

@CloudxAerith not to be rude, but FFX-2 storyline includes Yuna regretting not confessing her feelings in that moment. Even the song 1000 words says she's no longer afraid to say whats in her heart.

@KenMastersUSA Like the developers said, their intent was to have players experience sudden loss and the romance with Aerith would no doubt magnify this effect. The theme of 'saving the planet' and sustainability I think wasn't a big thing. Instead it was Cloud carrying Aerith's wish to save it

@KenMastersUSA The story and romance with Aerith was very much the central theme of FF7 OG, because the game design leaned heavily toward her in terms of romance. You can choose to experience a deeper story with her which is the intent, but you're also given a choice to ignore it.

I feel like you could enjoy FF7 and understand it (mostly) in OG without exploring too deeply into the romantic angle of the story. You just needed a surface level grasp of it to get what was going on. I don't think that's the case post-OG. IMO, particularly with Remake and moving forward, you absolutely need to explore the romantic relationship between Cloud and Aerith to grasp the story. It's been made the foremost element of the narrative. And to be fair, I think this works to the ReTrilogies detriment, as the affinity system and the unnatural and manufactured fan-service ambiguity of the LTD combined with the 3-part nature of the trilogy partially acts to dull and confuse an otherwise amazing narrative of love that transcends death. But even looking at it from a Tifa-centric perspective; that story is superior to whatever "environmentalist" or anti-corporate narrative once existed and only barely lingers on in the Remake trilogy. Think about it. Avalanche is no longer an eco-terrorist organization. For a variety of reasons, unlike in OG, they're not really ethically responsible and the moral ambiguity of their actions has been removed. This is by design. This is one of the reasons I'm arguing that the story and narrative have functionally changed, and the greater narrative is now truly about the relationship between Cloud and Aerith as well as Cloud's identity crisis in the B-story. Even Meteor itself seems to take a backseat. Anyway, just wanted to put my thoughts down because I still see many FF7 fans attacking shippers or those focused on the romantic angle of the story ~ and perhaps in OG I would understand, but not with Remake. It just seems to be a way of thinking (and a way of gatekeeping) that's stuck in nostalgia of the 1990s.
