Mathematicians like myself often work long hours in isolation. This has the effect of making you feel like you are alone, even if you know intellectually you are not. Going to a conference, giving a talk, listening to talks, chatting with colleagues, serves as a quick reminder you are not a solitary explorer

My only opinion on the whole Oxford-PhD fiasco is a milquetoast take which should be uncontroversial: All education from kindergarten to Masters should be 100% free for everyone, and Doctoral research should be recognised for what it is- productive labour. Therefore, all doctoral

I just received copies of my book!! Hot off the press!! While my excitement is tempered by endless crises, I’m continually inspired by those who work to both interpret the world and fight to change it. My book is officially out July 26. @stanfordpress sup.org/books/title/?i…

I don't cry easily, but as the dad of a teenage son with autism, ADHD & anxiety issues, watching Tim Walz's 17-year-old son(who has a non-verbal learning disorder, ADHD & anxiety disorder)standing up, crying & pointing to the stage telling everyone "that's my dad" just gutted me

@MEASeybold Watching from afar I wondered why Gov Walz seemed such an attractive figure; to my mind he reminds me of the sort of character James Stewart would play in a Frank Capra movie. He triggers that unusual, almost subconscious, nostalgic, feeling that you are seeing a good man.
