I love this painting of a Korean cat from the 19th century. In traditional Chinese culture, the word for cat, “mao,” sounded similar to a term associated with people in their seventies or eighties, which gave cats a symbolic link to longevity and long life. This symbolism later carried into Korea, where during the Joseon dynasty, paintings of cats became popular gifts for 60th birthday celebrations, known as hwangap. Unfortunately, the artist behind this particular piece remains unknown. I was hoping to discover more of their work because I absolutely love the cat’s expression—it somehow looks like a modern cartoon character despite being more than a century old.

The cool part of my app is I keep learning new (better) ways to do things (E.G a new way in Laravel to build my layout). The bad part is I don't have the time (or interns) to rewrite the old approach, so I end up with a mixed approach and "tech debt" that I'll surely clean up
