VR died (multiple times this time) yet again it still here. VR do have a problems but it's already too big to die and even if #VRChat dies there will be vacuum that will want to fill up with refugees that either will go to different platform or create new one. VR already have a have it's killer app and it's social VR, people here are most dedicated VR users, people who invested in it the most, not just hardware where people here are ready to spend ton of money more quirkiest things just to make themselves either more expressive or there experience more immersive, but also ton of digital content, avatars, items, worlds, other things, it creates whole new market, whole new culture. But wait lot of companies tried social VR many of them specially during covid boom, why they not successes, why VRChat always stand victories agiants big corporate entities? Where here the thing that i always say when this come to discussion: VRChat is anomaly The current way western and corporate culture is right now (specifically Americas and Europe) it's incapable to create VRChat or to replicated it on there own, not only that usually rejects it for many different reasons, it refuses to replicate what makes VRChat success as much as it understands it. And many social vr that fall recently had it rise and falls the has some success, it simply could not compete with VRChat because they trying to be something else then them. VRChat for shear of luck for everyone was made by armatures that didn't care about profit and more for cause to create virtual worlds in vr and.... from my perspective didn't really know what they doing probably, and that lack of self aware is probably major factor of it's success, which at the end payed off in popularity. It started as platfrom which you can do anything, whatever you cna do in unity you can do in VRChat technically Unity sendbox, express as you want, land of borderless possibilities. Something that current society is unable to create, by it's very controlling nature, world of expectations and rules, where in majority of cases you not allow to be what you really are and again despises any form of self-expression, to level that it's integrated to any service and product by design.... just because. Thats why all mainstream social vr platform are so sterile without much soul and same energy that VRChat have, making them complitly unattractive by vrc audiance And for other shear of luck VRChat became self-aware way after it succeeded, where theres no way to go back without major crash down that can collapse entire platform, it became too big. And clearly VRChat it self is aware of that to by playing sometimes 4D chess with community in seek of western corporate approval and self-sustainability. There no better proof of all then major influx in VRChat popularity outside of covid being expressions of pure meme and fun, from joey beagles streams (only reason im in VRC is seeing video of Matsix interactions and being in shock this is possible), to as much has you hate it ugandan knuckles to some japanese guy interacting with aliens, it all came from all those weird fun moments people see and come to check this fun wild wild west themselves, which some stayed. And in center of that you got Japan, country as much as being considered very conservative and strict culturally with lot of no-nos, at least in mainstream what people see from outside (and yes i never gonna be Japanese, and looking how Poland is persevered outside i can understand it's not full image) what more tolerable for quickness, weirdness, out of norm behavior even on corporate level that sometimes you may think they are run by nerds. At very least they more adventureus and don't have hold backs and western people got, they just do what is on there mind on mainstream level. It's a country which was proud making a robo dog that in reality it just more advance toy and be proud of it making world headlines.... i still got image of that dog every time i thinking deeply how Japan is. Unrestrain spaces like VRChat is where they thrive. And it's in corporate level, most big companies you see in VRChat are Japan branches of those companies and there main once likely not even aware of those VRChat investments. They are major force driving VRChat and social VR and of VRChat dies and somehow interest of it in the west, they the one who will keep it going one way of another. And it's a force that magnetize people to Japan, unrestrained expression, same force that makes people running away form sterile corporate space to to there own thing indie and usally it produced way bigger hits then those corporations then make, because people are magnetize to it. Entire Internet it's kind of the same, because it kind of has similar beginning as being something compliantly open, in times everyone was way more open and expressive. I always say that current sociality would not be capatible to create internet, http or even email, it would be all lock up and controled service, maybe VRChat came too late to be something bigger. There for VR is in state between life and death, it's to nerdy for western mainstream and it is to big to just disappear forgotten. It also worth mention here that there other major factor why VR don't hit mainstream, is fact that VR never going to replace real world. Most dedicated VRChat users are also in vast majority loners, either for geografical reasons, lacking social skills and there for lacking social life, social rejection, health related many reasons and if you are nerd you likely find other fellow nerd here then around, general escapism. People like that will want come to VR worlds daily, which for people might be seen as something degenerate.but people like that are most invested in VR. I think there not better proof here then shift toward AR glasses and as mainstream saying "it's a future VR was seeking" But even so im not sure if people what VR to be a mainstream, as everything that became mainstream eventually losing it's original magic, at least in west. Oh yea what about other games suppose to save VR..... well as far as i know most dedicated audience vr games ever had was in.... VRChat. I mean all i have to say is "Fish!" but you also got ToN which is likely most popular game world and only reason it fading away (less then Fish! btw) is developer lost interest it or rether it hit limitations of VRChat to move it even farther, but you also got ton of other game worlds you can visit and have. And people prefere that because two reaosn, 1 you already there 2. you have friends that are also already there and can enjoy game with you, abnd you dont even need to invite them. All other VR games missing that expirance, as someone said they feel empty leaving you in loneliness you tied to escape entering VRChat. That kind of shows that social vr should be as a core of VR expirance.
