I've recently passed my certification so I've gotten more free time now that I'm not studying so much. Just the daily grind of filling out job applications now. I can finally get back into game dev once my financial situation improves

Idea- have a demo build where you have people play against two different versions of the same boss- one fair, one unfair- then survey them on which one they liked more. AB test

really enjoying doom eternal but levels imo are too long. In the time it takes me to finish one level like the cultist base, I could complete the entirety of any given episode in the original doom

dk bananza emerald rush is interesting. It's only a touch of randomness. No random level generation or even random placement of emeralds, only what perk you can pick. So you can leverage your knowledge for where things are to build a better strategy for scoring

another aspect to my frustration with certain action rpgs is they put friction against what I naturally want to do when playing the game and I've already played many games where this wasn't the case. e.g. getting a new weapon and playing with it right away

In order for combat w/ enemies to be more complex, you need them to survive longer for more interplay. So the more time you spend fighting an enemy or multiple enemies before moving on, the less you're moving through an obstacle course and the less it plays like platforming

reason why attempts to have more complex melee combat in 2d platformers is often hit or miss is because they are design paradigms that are easily at odds w/ each other. Platformers emphasize continuously moving through space but combat typically anchors players to a single area

idea for action games is when hitting an enemy that has superarmor or poise, to reduce the size, transparency or outright remove the hitsparks or other special effects to better indicate that there isn't as much impact while also keeping the action clear. Solves a feedback issue

I beat Alma in ninja gaiden but she's just not a good boss. Little interplay, hyperarmor resulting in unclear interactions and hitstun is inconsistent. I can at least enjoy the rest of the game now but she's another worth breaking down.
