OPERATION CLEAN: Our Litter Response Team has collected over 300 tons of litter and debris since Operation Clean launched in 2024. With spring here, the crews are back out — clearing litter, cutting overgrowth, and tackling the eyesores that have no place in our community.

Not a place you want to be — between the third rails. MTA Police Department and Long Island–based animal rescuer John DeBacker worked together to safely pull this cat off the tracks between Lindenhurst and Babylon on the LIRR. And now he’s got a new name: Garfield. Close call. Safe rescue.
