If you knew him, you loved him. Wishing John was with us for his 60th birthday today. His thoughts on the state of @LSUfootball would be priceless. Miss you, friend.

LSU made 3 field goals in a quarter for the 4th time in program history. Coincidentally, all below were in the 2nd Qtr.: 11/1/1969 @ OM (Mark Lumpkin 36-30-30) 10/21/1978 @ UK (Mike Conway 33-22-26) 9/18/2010 v MSU (Josh Jasper 32-51-37) 11/25/2025 v ARK (Damian Ramos 50-42-42)

Unsung hero @Ramoskicks kicked @LSUfootball's 8th "game-winning" PAT in the SEC era (since 1933), the Tigers' 1st since 11/23/02 (John Corbello vs. Ole Miss). Considering it to be "game-winning" if the kick was the last point scored in the 4th quarter (or OT) and LSU won by 1.

I’ve tried to be as clear as possible on the rule which came into effect in 2013 when I was Coordinator of Officiating for the American Conference. I’ll try one more time. I posted the rule earlier. The key word in the rule is “position”. Once a player plays in a specific position (QB, RB, WR, LB, DB, OL, DL, Punter, Place-kicker, holder, etc), no teammate who shares the same number may legally play in that position. This is determined *at the snap* and what that player does during the down is not relevant. Here, the backup QB clearly was in the Punter position *at the snap*. No one else with #80 had played in that position earlier so nothing on the fake punt play was illegal as he was listed as #80 on the game day roster. After that, no other player with #80 can legally be in the Punter position when the ball is snapped. If that happens, it’s a foul for Unsportsmanlike Conduct at the snap. When the actual Punter #80 took his punting “position” later in the game it was a foul *at the snap* which would only be penalized once. USC fans can feel free to believe anything they like. But this is the rule.

Basically, USC outsmarted Northwestern, who could have pointed out the issue to the refs but didn't. I'm also curious how positions are defined. If a QB pooch punts, does that mean he's played punter? If a RB lines up in the wildcat and completes a pass, has he played QB?
