Born in Mendota Heights, Minnesota, Ann Bancroft is the first woman to cross the ice to both the North and South Poles. Her achievements earned her a spot in the National Women’s Hall of Fame in 1995 and made her a true Minnesota trailblazer. 💙

Students tuned in via radio updates and explored the South Pole through lessons in math, geography, and more. Over 250,000 kids were inspired!

31 years ago today, on January 14, 1993, Minnesota’s own Ann Bancroft and the American Women’s Expedition made history as the first all-woman team to reach the South Pole after 67 days and 660 miles of skiing.

3️⃣ The 1940 Armistice Day Blizzard: With a 60-degree temperature drop, 26 inches of snow, and 49 lives lost (many hunters), this storm changed weather forecasting forever.

Everyone talks about the 1991 Halloween Blizzard, but Minnesota’s history is packed with even wilder storms. 🌨️ On this day in 1873, "The Great Storm" struck — one of the deadliest in state history. Here are three others that left their mark on Minnesota:
