34% of domestic tourists visited friends & rellies YE Sept '19, but they only contributed 20% of o’night spend. With accom, meals & #transport costs often covered by the host, their avge #travel costs ($402) were less than half that of #holiday travellers. bit.ly/2C1gdkY

In YE Sept '19, Uber use for our internat'l visitors increased by 24% to 2.5m over the year while taxi use fell 6%. #Uber was used more often by young travellers (46% of those aged 15-34), & by North #American & #European visitors (40% & 36%, respectively) bit.ly/2ScdJTs

No place like home! 68% of domestic o'night trips were taken exclusively within the traveller’s state of residence. Intrastate trips can offer greater convenience and affordability. On avge they were cheaper ($449 vs $1,174) & shorter (2.9 vs 4.9 nights). bit.ly/2C1gdkY

#Tourism GVA grew 67% from $33.5b in 2008–09 to $55.9b in 2018–19. The growth in GVA came from the industries in the chart below. Tourism contributes more to the #economy than agriculture, forestry & fishing, utilities & information, media & coms. More: bit.ly/36HXLZ4

The avge length of holiday trips to 🇦🇺 has fallen over the last 5 yrs but the avge spend per #holiday visitor remained relatively constant ($4,300 per visitor). Spend per night went up from $166 to $208 & visitors increased 52% over the same period. More bit.ly/2ScdJTs

Tourism is different from other sectors as it is mostly female (54%), compared to the nat'l workforce (47%) & has a high proportion of part-time workers (48%), compared with the nat'l workforce (31%). Over 10yrs, the pt #tourism workforce grew 41% vs 24% growth in ft #employment.

The 2018–19 #tourism #investment pipeline had 20 #aviation projects worth $18.3b. This was an increase of $1.4b compared to 2017–18, driven by the 3 aviation infrastructure project upgrades currently in the works across the #NT (worth $360m). More info: bit.ly/35DCWgJ
