@badgrbas It’s why we say “outer suburbs” when in an American context that would just be the suburbs.

What’s NZ’s “fourth” city. Auckland, Wellington, and Whanganui are pretty clearly the top 3 but the 4th is more ambiguous. I feel like the main contenders are probably Dunedin, Napier/Hawkes Bay, Hamilton, or maybe Christchurch

Tasmania is so far behind the rest of Australia that 9/11 hasn’t even happened yet for them…

@gaijinthoughts Disappointing for those of us that enjoy proportional electoral systems and the moderating impact they have but I suppose the parallel system was never really that proportional anyway. *sigh*

Mainichi: The LDP and Ishin are considering cutting Lower House seats only from the PR bloc to avoid internal battles over single-member districts. The move would hit smaller parties like the JCP and Reiwa hardest, plus PR-reliant parties such as Sanseito and Team Mirai.

It is very clear that the centre left will get a new party (again) and be forced to repeat the post-2012 reconstruction all over again. This is bad for those parties, but also bad for Japanese democracy. A healthy democracy has healthy competition, with a functional opposition

All in all, this is an awful result for the Japanese opposition, including the centrist populist parties, the left, and the victories of Team Mirai and the Tax Cuts alliance show an appetite for change, but an unwillingness to support the mainstream options.

Japan results roundup: In a stunning victory for Takaichi, we have seen the LDP get their best result **ever**. They now have the required numbers to do all the things the hard right of the party has been aching to do, like possible constitutional revision. 🧵 1 of many
