🔥 Our favorite constraint at Transforming Basketball 🧠 The "Floor is Lava" constraint creates better spacing by forcing players to escape the paint, encouraging smarter positioning and movement without the ball. 😄 Players love it. Coaches see results. 🔁+❤️ Repost and Like this post, and we'll send you the full breakdown. (Valid 72h only)

The offense here must float dribble before playing live 1-on-1. We create an advantage by having the defender start with their legs crossed.

Push or pull is a drive reaction principle of play to prevent 1 defender from guarding 2. "Imagine there is a piece of string to stretch the defender, making it impossible for him to guard 2."

Creating space is not just through a speed advantage, but more often because of the limited space you have on the court with other people, it’s more about the contact advantages you can play with, allowing you to also be much more efficient with the space you only have to operate with and in.

💡 1-on-1 Bounce Close Outs 👉 Defender takes a dribble out and throws an underhand pass off the dribble. Offense attacks the close out. Live 1v1. 🔨 Constraints: play from a new location each time, dribble limit, space limit, stampede the catch, etc.

Knee Tag 1-on-1 The small advantage is created by the defenders' movement. The defender's tag cues the offensive player to go after taking continuous float dribbles. The reality of learning at this level is that there will be mistakes and it will look far from perfect. We have to embrace this as coaches vs being afraid of the mess!

The myth of perfect practice is not desirable for learning. The nonlinear nature of learning means that as coaches, we should NOT be striving for perfect practices.

In this SSG, players earn extra points for holding their defender on their back through a hostage dribble, expanding the 2-on-1 advantage.

Hot Potato 1-on-1 is a great way to sharpen offensive and defensive 1-on-1 skills. The offense and defense constantly pass the ball back and forth, with the offense free to drive at any moment. The offense changes location on every catch. The defender attempts to recover to neutral from a disadvantage start.

"The more space you can create the more options you can play with. Establishing appropriate spacing not only allows athletes to convert on the first advantage which is creating their scoring opportunity, but it also stretches the defence making it difficult to have more than one on the ball, and if another does come to the ball we still have the advantage with now either numbers but also space from a closeout and a dilemma a defender is now in. Focus on creating space because creating advantages and efficient scores will come so much more easier."

2-on-2 with a 4 second shot clock. Great game for promoting single gap positioning for the off-ball defender, and the on-ball defender staying in neutral without conceding a blow-by.
