TRANSIT FINANCE LOSES 1.88M USD IN HACK TIED TO 2022 LEGACY TRON CONTRACT Cross-chain DeFi protocol Transit Finance (@TransitFinance) was exploited on Tuesday for roughly $1.88 million, with stolen funds now sitting in DAI on Ethereum after originating on TRON, according to PeckShield. Transit confirmed the incident today, attributing it to "historical vulnerabilities" in an early-version smart contract deployed on TRON in 2022 and deprecated the same year. The protocol said affected users will receive full compensation. Transit also sent an on-chain message to the attacker's wallet, giving 48 hours to return the funds before initiating legal proceedings. The protocol offered a bug bounty if assets are safely returned, but threatened to submit evidence to law enforcement, exchanges, and on-chain security firms if the deadline lapses. This is Transit's second major exploit. The protocol lost $28.9 million in October 2022 via a different swap contract vulnerability; that attacker eventually returned roughly 70% of the funds after similar negotiations.

Hot take: this is exactly why DeFi keeps getting hacked. "Deprecated" just means they stopped using it; the vulnerabilities never left. Deprecated ≠ dead 👀

📣 Transit Announcement Regarding a recent incident related to historical legacy risks, we would like to share the following update: 1️⃣ Cause of the Incident The issue was related to an early-version smart contract previously deployed on TRON. Although this legacy contract had been deprecated since 2022, historical vulnerabilities within it were recently exploited, affecting a limited number of users. 2️⃣ Actions Taken Upon discovery, our team immediately carried out investigation, isolation, and mitigation measures, followed by additional review and remediation on May 12, 2026. Users do not need to take any action. The current smart contract version remains unaffected and has been operating securely for over four years, with ongoing security audits, testing, and monitoring in place. We will continue strengthening the management of legacy contracts and potential on-chain risks to further improve overall security. 3️⃣ Compensation Affected users will receive full compensation, with further details to be announced through our official channels. 4️⃣ Security Reminder • Please remain cautious of unsolicited messages or accounts claiming to represent Transit Finance. • Never share your private key or seed phrase with anyone.
