BREAKING: Former Illinois Deputy Sentenced to 20 Years in Prison for OIS of Sonya Massey Sean Grayson, a former Sangamon County sheriff’s deputy, was sentenced to 20 years in prison Thursday for the fatal shooting of 36-year-old Sonya Massey. Grayson was convicted in October 2025 of second-degree murder after jurors determined he had an honest, though unreasonable, fear for his safety. Grayson testified he feared being scalded. Massey’s family, who attended the sentencing, voiced frustration about the conviction.

Threatening the cops and then trying to carry out the threat after their guns are drawn is crazy work. I don't blame them for shooting. She was given multiple chances to drop the pot and chose not to. Having seen the full video, I know they gave her plenty of chances to not be in that situation. I would never talk to the cops in my kitchen when I'm less than 10 ft away from kitchen knives and a hot stove with boiling water on it. That's just the death wish.

@Thefactsdude if someone threatens to shoot you then picks up a pot full of scolding hot liquid that would 100% be perceived as a threat causing great bodily harm. people always cut the dialog out on this clip so i never knew she threatened him first
