Especially in Eastern Ukraine, you’ll see Russian and Ukrainian both in use. Here’s a way for telling them apart by sight. This doesn’t tell you ДЕТИ (children) or Путин (Putin) is Russian, but it would tell you that ДІТИ or Путін is Ukrainian (since Russian has no letter і).
