Honestly, the biggest problem with the IRC other than it’s controlled by whatever side the independent favors, is that it is too small. Its members don’t understand or have any significant knowledge of most areas in the state. The communities that they are from are the communities that get prioritized in redistricting. Happens every cycle. This is why I’d prefer the legislature to do it. You’d get voices from 30 districts across the state. But as long as we have a commission, I’d prefer to see the size increased. Perhaps to 15 members? It is currently just 5. 5 Rs, 5Ds, 5Is? It will still matter most who the “I’s” are. But what if out of these 15 members you have 8 from Maricopa. 3 from Pima. And no more than 1 from any other county. (this is roughly the state population breakdown by county) No two commissioners can reside in the same municipality. If a commissioner lives in unincorporated land in a county, no other commissioner can live in unincorporated land in the same county. At least that would guarantee more communities across Arizona have a real say in their lines, even if one side has “effective” control.

Yes, but every one of those members is nominated and put forth by the Arizona Commission on Appellate Court Appointments. Every member of that commission, except for the chief justice, is appointed by the Governor to a four year term. Our redistricting process has never been completely “independent.”

Today’s Supreme Court decision is a HUGE WIN for equality under the law. President Trump won Arizona by 5% points. With fair districts based on communities rather than race, we will send more conservatives back to Washington DC to protect our Arizona values.

Navajo County appointed state Rep. @DaveMarshallAZ as its new county recorder. The problem? The Arizona Constitution makes lawmakers ineligible for other state, county and municipal jobs during the terms they've been elected to serve. axios.com/local/phoenix/…

Just one problem: Under AZ Constitution, David Marshall can't serve as both a state rep AND a county recorder.

Per a 1977 attorney general opinion by Bruce Babbitt, a sitting lawmaker would violate Article 4, Part 2, Section 5 of the AZ Constitution by assuming an elected municipal office "during the life of the term to which such member was elected." azmemory.azlibrary.gov/nodes/view/630…

NEW: The Navajo County Board of Supervisors just appointed Arizona Rep. David Marshall as county recorder. Former Recorder Tim Jordan, who promoted false claims about voter fraud, resigned after being indicted on criminal charges. Background: votebeat.org/arizona/2026/0…
