I came across an article that honestly shocked me. A woman in a Muslim-majority country was reportedly charged with blasphemy after posting a video of herself eating pork while speaking Arabic. Wait… what? So in some countries, pork is not “just food.” It is religion. Faith. Halal. Haram. A serious line you don’t cross. Fine. Then understand this too. In Japan, pork is normal life. Ramen. 🍜 Tonkatsu. 🐖 Gyoza. 🥟 Butaman. 🐷 Family restaurants. 🍽️ Convenience stores. 🏪 Japan does not force anyone to eat pork. Japan does not force anyone to drink alcohol. Japan does not force anyone to break their religion. But Japan also does not need to rebuild its food culture around someone else’s religion. If your faith tells you not to eat pork, Japan will respect that. But if your faith tells Japan to erase pork from its culture, then please don’t come to Japan. Japan is not the one that needs to change.
