Clearing things up about Junhwan’s military service/exemption: Junhwan’s ‘exemption’ isn’t actually a full exemption from military conscription. He is only exempt from the regular service that lasts 18~21 months and is instead required to complete supplementary military service under the ‘arts and sports service personnel’ system which is designed to ensure military service does not affect an athlete’s career. This system places the ‘exempt’ athlete in physical grade IV (physical grades are part of a system created by the korean military to determine what kind of service a male citizen must serve). This means Junhwan must complete 3 weeks of basic military training (mandatory + yes he must shave his hair off for it) and a certain number of community service/volunteer hours on top of a requirement that he must continue his activities as a competitive figure skater within 34 months (on paper I believe it was around 42 months, but in practice it has typically been 34 months). Junhwan mentioned during a domestic competition this season that he will be completing the mandatory training after the Milan Olympics. He did not mention anything else regarding this matter, however he was recently spotted getting his physical tests for the training done. Any mentions of Junhwan not needing to enlist is false. His military service has already begun.

@tripleaxels I agree that what she said makes no sense but she has been to like 90% of major international competitions with her skaters 😭

the balls to be saying anything like she hasn't been banned and hasn't stepped foot in the international scene for a long time — just so inaccurate, anyone in the community can tell you how all the girls mentioned have personalities that shifted a toxic culture in women's fs
