Thanks for the comments. From a teaching standpoint, I agree that I think defining these noble gases as having 8 valence electrons better “prepares” students for understanding Lewis structures

Just because I’ve seen so much inconsistency in general chemistry textbooks, I’m curious…would you classify noble gases (excluding He) as having 8 valence electrons or 0 valence electrons?
