Stepping out of the island’s only gas station, Benke noticed a flyer hanging on the wall, and did a double take. Across the top of the page in large bold type, the flyer read “MISSING” along with a pixelated photo of a small, stark-white cat named Vail. This was not unusual. House cats get out, get lost, and usually don’t get found. Benke’s confusion over this particular flyer stemmed from what was printed just below the photo of the 5-pound Doll Face Persian: “$10,000 REWARD for Vail’s safe return home.” trulyadventure.us/lost-on-sulls-…

On September 12, 1982, a 12-year-old girl, Mary Kellerman, was hospitalized after consuming a capsule of Tylenol, a brand of acetaminophen. She died the next day. About two weeks later, six other deaths were recorded, including three members of a family that took the painkiller from the same bottle. It was quickly determined that the Tylenol capsules had been laced with cyanide, but despite the relentless efforts of the FBI, the case remains unsolved.

In 1982 Tylenol capsules laced with potassium cyanide killed 7 people in Chicago. Do you remember that?

Grant Williams stepped out of his SUV and walked through the snow and hail to the middle of the basketball court in the Stapleton projects to see the new Wu-Tang Clan “W” emblem painted at its center. On the benches, which used to line the courtyard inside Stapleton, he and Ghostface once sold crack. On those same benches, the two gathered the raw material for what would become one of the most heralded rap careers in the genre’s history. Their rise in the hip-hop world was both improbable and unprecedented. trulyadventure.us/never-let-go-g…

Hollywood producer Boris Morros was famous for his wild antics, but even he might not have believed the outrageous scheme he was about to hatch in this flamingo-pink booth. Across from him sat Vasily Zarubin, the KGB’s top spy in America. The Soviet intelligence officer peered over the table at Boris, glass of vodka in hand. “What about taking my men into your company?” he said. It was Hollywood’s Technicolor age. For this clandestine lunch in February of 1943, Zarubin had chosen the showiest restaurant on Wilshire Boulevard. Perino’s was famous for its crab legs and pink décor, and more so for its glamorous clientele. Bette Davis had her own booth. So did mobster Bugsy Siegel. It was a curious location, then, to hatch an espionage scheme. Then again, even communist spies liked to hobnob.trulyadventure.us/counterspy

Isidore Liseux, 37, clenched the delicate, fading manuscript written in ancient Latin. The French bibliophile and collector had rummaged through the small bookstore near Regent’s Park in London, on the lookout for hidden gems among rare editions of poetry and theology. He hardly expected to stumble on a mystery, a work copied by hand, that had been considered by the Church as too dangerous to ever be published. trulyhorror.com/the-demonology… @nickripatrazone

“Danielle,” grandma said, “this is not just a road trip. We are going to go see your mom.” When I was in middle school, my mother entered the Witness Protection Program, and it was considered too dangerous and difficult in her case to bring two children. She had already gradually grown removed from the daily aspects of parenting, and overnight she became a stranger. We didn’t know where she was living, and she had a new name that I would never recognize. My mother had vanished. trulyadventure.us/six-months-wit…

Ben Hecht, 19, was hustling his way as a reporter for the Chicago Daily Journal, when the city editor, Eddie Mahoney, called for him, with a tip on a story that he wanted Ben to follow up on. Ben listened as Eddie explained. According to the tip, the Antichrist–the Devil’s child, Satan incarnate–had been born right there in Chicago. Ben was incredulous, but he had to prove himself, even if tasked with the impossible, something that seemed straight out of scripture rather than a newsroom. For the next six weeks, he would become consumed along with investigators from all walks of life, divided between those determined to spotlight destructive superstitions and those convinced they had a narrowing window of time to stop ultimate evil from being unleashed. This is the never-before-told true story said to have inspired Rosemary’s Baby. trulyhorror.com/devils-child
