Carpets of Wild Garlic & Dog's Mercury in @suffolkwildlife Combs Wood this morning. Power lines wood gang have cleared under LV line in north of wood, has created nice open ride, hopefully weren't any early nests there. Did find a Long-tailed Tits being built in bramble

Contacted @StowmarketTC about the habitat clearance in Violet Hill Road Old Cemetery & they replied saying it's to open up historic graves & memorials from late 19thC & early 20thC & is nearing completion. Probably be saying next that gravestones are unsafe now have been exposed

@StowmarketTC still cutting back low nesting cover in Violet Hill Road Old Cemetery this morning. When told most authorities stop such work on March 1st now to prevent destroying or disturbing nests, weren't interested in stopping, said now they've started aren't going to stop..

@mattgarnham90 @StowmarketTC They'd be better off concentrating on litter picking if they want to tidy the town up, the state of Stowmarket they'd never run out of work there, but in true agri Suffolk style they prefer nature bashing

@Griffonfulture @StowmarketTC Yes, shouldn't expect anything less in Stow I suppose. Path clearance was bound to spill over into habitat destruction at some point with a Ranger Service and group of vols looking for work to occupy them year round

At Boyton Hall this morning 350 Linnets twittering defiantly in the cold on the wires over Jack's Grove cover crop + 70 Yellowhammers. 50 Lapwings flew west, 30 Skylarks & 25 Pied Wags in the winter wheat by Temple Grove. Cold by modern standards, but still relatively mild really

A couple of mushrooms found in the wood near mine. The Agaric on the left is a bit old and maggoty, staining yellow and smells bad so think is the Yellow Stainer, so won't be eating that. Much safer with the Wood Blewit on the right, a gourmet mushroom

Spookily warm, 17°C on November 6th at 52°N. The embers of the fading sun still burning on what could be yet another warmest year on record. The big question is how far & how quickly will this warming go? Where is the tipping point? We may well have unknowingly already passed it

New owners had a good clear out of the moated pond at Boyton Hall, sort of thing that looks brutal but does a lot of good for wetlands. Amazing how much silt builds up over the years. Don't have to go down far to get to natural clay liner. Pair of greylags already checking it out

Redwings on the move tonight, frequent calls low overhead in stiff, mild southerlies. Amazing if they're moving from Scandinavia into head winds and series of weak fronts?

Yesterday morning was brilliant. We ringed 75 Goldcrests in a wood near Marlborough. They are Europe's smallest bird. We also ringed two dazzling Firecrests. Firecrests are on average very slightly larger than Goldcrests. In contrast with many species, Firecrests are increasing.

@AspectForest You're too kind, an unfortunate play on acronyms I think. If you're in agriculture its probably not best to brag about having the initials DDT, especially if you're exporting goods overseas

Seems like some in farming think the bad old days are something to celebrate. Expect in the fens they still dust their porridge with it every morning
