Atiku, Saraki, Amaechi, Tambuwal, El-Rufai, Kwankwaso, Nyako, Wamakko etc. Atiku’s was the most despicable. He had met with President Jonathan and when the President appealed to him to support him in the then coming 2015 presidential election, he said that he (GEJ) should hand over to him (Atiku) the PDP presidential ticket. A former vice president asking an incumbent president to hand him the party’s ticket because that president was from a minority group while he is from one of the country’s majority ethnic groups. Of course, Jonathan said no. So the exodus from PDP continued but it was to the advantage of the APC and anything that would make Buhari win was ‘good’ as far as I was concerned (and I am still concerned). Nyesom Wike, Sule Lamido, Bode George, Ayo Fayose etc stood by their party. PDP was going to become lifeless but Wike, in particular, gave her a life saving oxygen. It was because of Wike especially that PDP only went into coma instead of being certified dead. Immediately they got to the newly formed APC, two of them - Atiku and Kwankwaso wanted the party’s presidential ticket. Buhari was disturbed because he had no war chest to compete with the duo in a party primary. He could not even compete with Okorocha who also wanted the ticket. Tinubu assured him of victory. The first step he (Tinubu) took was to fix the primary at his base - Lagos. The second step was that he ensured that none of his ACN contingent in his new APC contested for the ticket and that included his ACN men from the north. The third was that he picked Dr Kayode Fayemi as the chairman of that convention. Then the day came and after the exercise, Muhammadu Buhari emerged winner after spending next to nothing against Atiku especially. Jonathan lost to Buhari in the general election and more PDP top shots left the party but all those listed above stayed. Saraki was the Atiku group’s point man and since the Buhari group had taken the president’s position and the Tinubu group had taken the vice president’s slot, the Atiku group felt that they should take the senate president’s office and out of desperation, they took it but in the most dishonour and despicable manner. They slowed down that wheel of progress of the Buhari government in his first term and so APC decided to get rid of them and they did. Then, they returned to the PDP where Wike and others were left with no choice than to welcome them back. They came back so that they could challenge Buhari in 2019. Wike threw his support to Tambuwal and like Tinubu did for Buhari, Wike took the primary to Port Harcourt but unlike Tinubu, his preferred aspirant, Tambuwal lost to Atiku. Atiku then picked Obi as his running mate against President Muhammadu Buhari and Vice President Yemi Osinbajo and they were roundly beaten by the late fPMB. In 2023, Buhari would complete his eight years rule and so every Nigerian who has an iota of fairness in him as well as respect for other geopolitical zone in the country felt that it should be the turn of the south especially going by the fact that the northern part of the country has ruled more than the south two times over at the very least. So Wike, who never left the PDP when others left and who sustained the party when it was in political ICU threw his hat into the ring. But surprisingly, at the 2022 PDP presidential primary at the Moshood Abiola stadium in Abuja, Tambuwal, who was also an aspirant and who had already delivered his speech, was allowed by Iyorchia Ayu to speak the second time whereas voting was supposed to be the next thing.
