This is the problem in my opinion Let me be really frank today. Firstly your lab gets crores in funding, and still they don't pay you. and you get paid 0INR. Okay let's even consider that the funding is very low and they can't pay you. You do your internship and let's say you get a paper in a A* conference if you're lucky, your PhD mates get their PhD requirements increased, your profs citations would increase leading to increase in their salaries and reputation. It's a job, you're working for someone else, you deserve to get paid. You don't get any benifit except "exposure" PLEASE DONT FALL FOR THIS TRAP. ask your mentor for your deserved salary.
