Was soll denn bitte unrealistisch sein? Schärfere Migrationspolitik, Ende der Subventionen für Energiewende und Ausland, Steuersenkungen etc . Kann man alles umsetzen

@windenergysci Interesting and unexpected. Deep learning has surpassed forest-based models around 10 years ago in Vision applications. Curious to see why this is / would be different here.

@iamgingertrash Because they are used to it. Consumers never payed much directly for software and services. Windows was pre installed, Google et al are running on ad money. Business models need to reflect this.

Ask yourself why someone will pay $70 for a pair of Zara jeans instead of $5/month for twitter Software is becoming saturated. Consumers opt out with their wallets.

I’ve been saying this: 1. software is saturated 2. It’s easier to find a customer who’ll try hardware today, than get them to install another app 3. deep tech is unexplored. The space of software exploration is coming to an end as AGI develops Fund harder problems!
Leo Polovets@lpolovets

Since I'm investing in deep tech & critical national sectors via our fund @humbavc, I wanted to better understand if deep tech is VC-fundable. So, I did what any engineer would: I analyzed data! TLDR: deep tech is probably the best place to invest today. codingvc.com/p/betting-on-d…

@Michael_J_Black @ak92501 Also the other way around, a rejected paper might have been improved based on the feedback from the reviews, potentially raising its impact.

@ak92501 One cannot conclude that the reviewing was good at identifying poor papers because rejection may *cause* low impact. Publication of rejected papers is delayed, which may cause them to be scooped. They are also published in less visible venues, causing them to get less attention.

@CSProfKGD Times were not consistently shown in my local time zone. Would love to have a video stream for some subject area where papers are compiled and one can passively observe. Did really love the paper videos.

@CSProfKGD Lots of good things, but also: Very difficult to navigate and explore the 1k papers. Could not search by keywords, authors, not grouped by topic in one place; could not see timeslots, videos, posters in the open access repository.

Since the discussion period for ICCV is coinciding exactly w/ CVPR, I'd guess very few reviewers & AC's are going to pay close attention to the rebuttals. This is yet another symptom of an odd system of rapid-fire, high-volume & decision-error-prone publishing in CV and ML.

@CSProfKGD I'm a reviewer. I usually let my reviews "ripe" for a bit and submit in the last few days before the deadline. As AC, do you prefer if I'd submit them earlier, but possibly edit / finetune them again before the deadline, or upload finished reviews later?

Israel's Covid vaccine rollout has been rapid - most people have now received >= 1 dose. And yet drop in cases has been slower than in many other countries (including US) I presume it's just delays (in vaccine effectiveness, reporting etc). Anyone have a detailed understanding?

By the way, I highly recommend @DKeithClimate's short book on geoengineering. A really enlightening read, which somehow manages to be simultaneously thought-provoking and very measured in all its claims.

1/ Amazing colloquium this week by @DKeithClimate on the science/politics of solar geoengineering The good news: using it to halt global warming is way cheaper, easier, and less (directly) dangerous than you probably think The bad news: the geopolitical implications are bonkers
