I’m a big fan of reasonable people who don’t try to demean others. I know…. what am I doing here right?

@PompeyPedro It was well covered and maybe slotting it around the lat defender in his first or second touch would have worked but it’s not guaranteed. More is made of it than it was. He didn’t want to risk it. I’m sure he enough of a right foot to make the pass. I dont buy the left foot only

Anyone who has ever played or watched ball beyond World Cup games knows that this pass was never on for a left footer, or at least had a pretty low chance of success. Sørloth is getting pelters online but Stones got his positioning absolutely perfect.

1) It is possible that I don’t know enough and that’s a perfectly reasonable red card in World Cup play. 2) That call is why soccer will never catch all the way on in the US. To have a guy booted AND then miss a game for that is an outrage. My son asked me “why is he getting kicked out.” And I said “because he stepped on that guy’s foot.” And then I realized how insane that is.

@davepedigo @GrantPaulsen It’s not unreasonable but in the context it’s not malicious like a reckless tackle. I think it’s harsh. Yellow would have been probably more appropriate

@GrantPaulsen It’s a bit higher up on the leg. It is certainly a judgement call. It’s not (IMO) unreasonable to call it a red card.

@GrantPaulsen I mean that could have easily snapped something in his ankle...I think you could consider it the equivalent to smashing a quarterback in the head. Players should take care to avoid it.

@GrantPaulsen It was harsh. His foot had to land and there’s nothing malicious. IMHO at this stage that’s not a red

@GrantPaulsen Not great. His foot had to land somewhere and there’s nothing malicious there. Yellow for sure.

So I’m not going to pretend to be a soccer expert. That red card seems asinine. That was not malicious or purposeful? 11 on 29 for 30 minutes plus he is out for the next game if you somehow hang on? That seems like a death sentence for speeding. Am I crazy? This is nuts.

@funnydanny It’s a double edge sword. They play to the second in college and I’ve been burned by that when we had breakaway scoring chances. I like the pro system. You feel like you have a chance even if it is a bit subjective

Soccer at the highest levels of the world: -We use the most advanced technology in the world to determine beyond a shadow of a doubt that a scoring player was millimeters into an offside position. -The game sorta ends when the ref is like, ‘yeah you guys kinda had your last chance there & it’s about the time we said to wrap it up.’

@TaylorTwellman It should be a six inch thick line to eliminate calls like this. If you’re within that zone, you’re on. Outside and your off.

@BlackLabelAdvsr I don’t think that’s why it won’t become as popular as it is Europe but it does suck when this happens. The line has to be drawn somewhere. They could make it thicker so if there is a call like this, there’s a 6” buffer. If you did have a toe over, you’ll know it as clearly off.

Either this guy is our coach or they keep showing a random dude on the sideline who occasionally talks to players. He is wearing the least “I’m a coach” outfit I’ve ever seen. He looks like he got dressed to go to lunch at Outback at 2 pm on a Saturday.

@GrantPaulsen @DMVCommanders Great leader (that’s why he’s the captain) and yes past his prime but others are right. No one who has the composure to replace him. He can get exposed but he’s not useless. And had a great game against Paraguay

I am gonna preface this by saying I watch USMNT every 4 years and know nothing about it anything… The defender named Ream can’t run with these dudes and is a bit of a parking cone. Dudes blowing past him.

If Brian Thomas does get traded, this would make a lot of sense. I know Washington fans want to see BT in Burgundy and Gold but the Commanders just dont have the picks to get it done. espn.com/nfl/story/_/id…
