A few months ago, I happened to read the dust jacket of Leo Varadkar's new autobiography. What immediately struck me was this, there was no mention of anything other than his own personal accomplishment of taking power.
Quite frankly I think it's a great insight into what's broken about Irish politics...
This man was leader of Fine Gael from 2017 to 2024, served as Taoiseach twice and held a wide range of ministerial portfolios - throughout any number of national crises, from Brexit, to Covid-19, to the war in Ukraine, to the prolonged crises in housing and health.
Yet, in these few lines meant to give a prospective reader a flavor of the book, all he could think to include was whether he was too young for it all or that he may have to disappoint some of his political friends (never mind letting down the Irish public).
This speaks to a politician more interested in power and prestige, than people; to a person more concerned with how they are perceived, than the lives they have changed. When that is the focus, nothing should surprise us.

It’s theatre. They have to get rid of him without a better ear shot, which was also theatre.

@GenXGirl1994 The language of trump's post is itself grounds for impeachment. No head of state in his right mind would ever say anything like this, especially on Easter Sunday.

🚨MEXICO MOVING TO DIGITAL CURRENCY🚨
Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum announced at the 89th Banking Convention in Cancún that cash payments at gas stations and toll booths will now officialy be phased out.
Digital payments are set to become mandatory for fuel and tolls by the end of 2026.
“Our goal this year is to make digital payments mandatory for fuel and tolls through the models we are developing together with the banks,” Sheinbaum said. “This is intended to strengthen accessible digital payment methods and drive the country’s digitalization forward in many other areas as well.”
This move is part of a bigger push to digitize the Mexican economy and reduce reliance on cash.
Do you see where this is heading?

Retirees in Enniscrone are being forced out of their homes with "nowhere to go."

It’s time for the Housing Minister to step in. People are not disposable assets.

This @pb4p teacher made my 9 year old child cry after he shouted at me (unprovoked) in the street today. What you should really determine @JoeDalyPBPMayo, before you post lies, is whether the people you are lying about (me, for example) put their audiorecorder on just in case you kicked off. That recording shows very clearly that you were the aggressor. Your own young colleague had the good grace to be embarrassed at you upsetting a young child. Ya big bully. Furthermore you tried to mow Stephen down. Taking a leaf out of your convicted buddy Stephen Bedford's book.

@SeamusMor19 Im hindsight there was obviously some surrender and regrant after the crash. We went bust and deals were done which populace was not privy too. 2015 possibly was when it was felt. Also feel like Brexit caused some back room deals to be made too.

It is heartbreaking to see the closure of Blair’s Hill Nursing Home and the impact of transfer trauma on residents who have called it home. The HSE should be stepping up to support these people by converting such facilities into badly needed state-run homes rather than allowing more closures.we wish the residents nothing but strength and peace during their relocation.
