Grants don’t build sustainability. Trust does. We explored new funding models at #BeyondGrants with @Catalyst2030. 📌 Earned revenue 📌 Results-based financing 📌 Local giving power Maji na Ufanisi’s Mombasa project is proof. Time to rethink the rules.

💼𝐂𝐨𝐫𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐆𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐦𝐚𝐤𝐞𝐫𝐬: 𝐘𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐈𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐜𝐭 𝐌𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐁𝐞 𝐂𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐝. Corporate foundations across East Africa are channeling millions into grantmaking that spans 𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐭𝐡𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐞, 𝐞𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧, 𝐜𝐥𝐢𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞, 𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐩𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐞 𝐝𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐩𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐭𝐡 𝐥𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐡𝐨𝐨𝐝𝐬. This capital is strategy, and it is how the private sector advances social license, responds to national priorities, and accelerates inclusive growth. Yet much of this investment remains invisible: 𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐫𝐞𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐢𝐧 𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐛𝐮𝐝𝐠𝐞𝐭𝐬, 𝐚𝐛𝐬𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐩𝐨𝐥𝐢𝐜𝐲 𝐟𝐫𝐚𝐦𝐞𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤𝐬, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐮𝐧𝐚𝐜𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐢𝐧 𝐩𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐡𝐫𝐨𝐩𝐲 𝐦𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐞𝐱𝐞𝐫𝐜𝐢𝐬𝐞𝐬. We recognize that corporate philanthropy in the region is also evolving in sophistication, 𝐥𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐥𝐨𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩𝐬, 𝐢𝐧𝐯𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐢𝐧 𝐬𝐲𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐦𝐢𝐜 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐞, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐝𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐩𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐠𝐨𝐚𝐥𝐬. But to shape the future, it must first be seen. It is in this context that we, in partnership with the @IUPhilanthropy, are undertaking a landmark regional study to quantify the 𝐯𝐨𝐥𝐮𝐦𝐞, 𝐝𝐢𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐠𝐢𝐜 𝐬𝐢𝐠𝐧𝐢𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 of philanthropic capital across 𝐊𝐞𝐧𝐲𝐚, 𝐔𝐠𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐚, 𝐓𝐚𝐧𝐳𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐚, 𝐄𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐨𝐩𝐢𝐚, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐑𝐰𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐚. If you are part of a 𝐜𝐨𝐫𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐟𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧, 𝐂𝐒𝐑 𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐬𝐭, 𝐨𝐫 𝐩𝐫𝐢𝐯𝐚𝐭𝐞-𝐬𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐨𝐫 𝐯𝐞𝐡𝐢𝐜𝐥𝐞 that disburses grants to external organizations, your input is critical. 𝐖𝐞 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐚𝐬𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝟏𝟒 𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐮𝐭𝐞𝐬 of your time to share your institution’s giving story. Your participation will directly inform national policy engagement, regional investment strategy, and the positioning of corporate philanthropy as a force for systems change. Let’s make corporate grantmaking 𝐯𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐛𝐥𝐞, 𝐯𝐚𝐥𝐮𝐞𝐝, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐞𝐦𝐛𝐞𝐝𝐝𝐞𝐝 in how we finance our shared future. 𝐋𝐢𝐧𝐤 𝐭𝐨 𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐩𝐚𝐭𝐞: surveymonkey.com/r/C3WTQWX

𝐖𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝 𝐓𝐡𝐞𝐲 𝐒𝐭𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐒𝐡𝐨𝐰 𝐔𝐩 𝐖𝐢𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐌𝐨𝐧𝐞𝐲?💰💰 Too often, the metric of value in philanthropy tilts toward money, 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐦𝐢𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧, 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐬𝐭, 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐫𝐞𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩. @GraceWMaingi of @KCDF challenges us to ask the uncomfortable: 𝐈𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐟𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐝𝐢𝐬𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐝, 𝐰𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩 𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐝? What we call “collaboration” must be audited for integrity. If it’s purely transactional, 𝐢𝐭’𝐬 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧.
