Following the Delhi High Court’s directions, the authorities shifted him to a hospital to facilitate his recovery after his health deteriorated during the fast. Would the Opposition have preferred that his condition worsen merely to sustain a political spectacle? Ensuring timely medical care in a situation like this is the responsible course of action, not a matter for manufactured controversy. The authorities have acted with empathy, balancing the Court’s directions with the imperative of protecting life.

Why hesitate to use digital technology to ensure compliance of 48 hours work week as per residency scheme 1992? If it happens NMC can see these young trainee doctors are inside the hospital only all 365 days round the clock. Why NMC is not willing to reduce suicides and quitting of students that is mostly due to cruel duty hours & faculty toxicity? NMC has no intention to do so and moves the responsibility to the state medical council & concerned colleges. How come at one issue it intervenes and in another issue it chooses to stay away???

Activist Sonam Wangchuk's health update | Sonam Wangchuk was admitted at VMMC & Safdarjung Hospital at 7:40 am on 18/7/2026 after being brought by Delhi Police. He was admitted with a history of fasting for 20 days for solid food and generalised weakness. There is no history of fainting attacks. At the time of admission, he was conscious with stable pulse, blood pressure and oxygen saturation. Signs of dehydration were seen. Blood gas analysis revealed compensated acidosis with decreased serum potassium with blood sugar of 78 mg/dl. Repeat Serum Potassium was similar. Urinary ketones were 1+ at the time of admission which have increased to 3+ by 1:00 pm. Although intravenous fluids were advised but the patient has refused all intravenous fluids, oral rehydration fluid or any other medication. He is being continuously monitored and counselled for treatment in best interest of his health.
