I had both these books when I was in the eleventh standard. My biology tutor had gifted me his brother's old copy of the original Resnick Halliday. The original one was far superior. One of the formative books for me.

Why does the Middle East hold half of the world’s oil? The answer lies deep in the region’s ancient past — between 100 and 300 million years ago. While many other parts of the world were disrupted by tectonic activity that destroyed or scattered oil deposits, the Arabian Plate remained unusually stable. This allowed vast quantities of oil to collect in highly porous limestone and sandstone reservoirs — natural “sponges” that soaked up the oil like giant underground tanks. Even better, these reservoirs were sealed by thick, impermeable layers of shale and massive salt domes that acted as perfect caps, preventing the oil from leaking to the surface. This rare combination — abundant organic source material, ideal burial conditions, and highly effective natural traps — created one of the largest and most concentrated oil accumulations on Earth. That is why, today, the Middle East holds roughly half of the world’s conventional oil reserves.
