Spoke to a friend based out of Tiruppur, Tamil Nadu. One thing he clearly mentioned was the disappointment among many BJP supporters over sidelining K. Annamalai. For many youngsters there, Annamalai had become an inspirational figure and a strong face of change. The moment BJP appeared to sideline him, a section of supporters felt genuinely disheartened. In Tamil Nadu politics, perception and emotional connect matter deeply and BJP seems to have paid a heavy price for weakening its strongest grassroots face in the state.

Mr. Karuppiah, a Dalit leader who served as AIADMK MLA for Sholavandhan from 2011–2016, was gradually sidelined after the Jayalalithaa era due to his caste identity and anti-BJP stance. In 2021, despite requesting another opportunity, EPS denied him a ticket and fielded Mr. Manickam instead who eventually lost the constituency. Karuppiah then went politically silent for a while. Ahead of 2026, he once again sought a chance from AIADMK leadership, but was ignored again. Weeks later, through Mr. Sengottaiyan, he joined TVK, and #ThalaivarVijay gave him the same Sholavandhan seat. This time, Karuppiah defeated Manickam and returned as MLA. Yesterday, as Interim Speaker, he presided over the Assembly while AIADMK factions came before him to submit petitions during their internal power struggle. By protocol, Karuppiah remained seated while the very leaders who once sidelined him stood before him. That moment was bigger than politics. It was a reminder that social justice is not just spoken sometimes, history makes people witness it in silence. The same system that once pushed him aside had to stand before him yesterday. That is politics. That is justice. And that is why yesterday mattered. #TVK #Vijay
