I love a bunch of these movies but a huge part of the appeal of them, why Connery is so good, is that he's a murderer who likes murder. He's dangerous and he resents almost everything - the British elite he represents and outclasses but still look down on him, the Americans who write his checks, the beautiful women he sleeps with.

I watched the first James Bond film and Sean Connery represents real masculinity. This is a REAL man right here.

@Dogbert_Rules @tomhfh Did you know that, after the anglo invasion of England, celts had to retreat to Cornwall and Wales and their country is still occupied by invading anglos to this day, who control 90% of their land?

@tweeterjohn5 @tomhfh YES. Very sad state of affairs. I do feel for you Celts. But BEFORE you get mad at the Anglos STOP IMPORTING CRIMINALS FROM THE THIRD WORLD. IF YOU WANT IMMIGRANTS FOR A BIGGER ECONOMY, TAKE DECENT PEOPLE. 3rd world is giving you its JAIL POPULATION. EVEN they don't want them

Why does India WANT to get rid of its citizens? I know of NO OTHER country that does a global roadshow to convince other countries to take THIER people.

@SketchesbyBoze You know what I realized though: you get a lot more from an analytical history than from even the best biographies

I’ve been reading these books and I’m telling you, there are few things that will better hone your intellect than reading a bit of history each day. You’ll understand psychology, systems, warfare, government, religion. Most of us are adrift because we don’t study history.

Slightly over five years after I read volume one and 4231 pages later, I've finally finished the last book in Jonathan Sumption's monumental history of the Hundred Years War.

@Dogbert_Rules @tomhfh And celts deserve reparations from the anglos who literally invaded and stole everything from them. King Arthur is a Celtic legend of trying to fight against the anglo Saxons - and then they stole that story, too!

CANADIANS MUST HAVE MORE CHILDREN OR GO EXTINCT.
@tweeterjohn5 @tomhfh True. Anglos DO deserve reparations from the Vikings who INVADED (MASS migration ILLEGAL) north england and then stole EVERYTHING. But we only complain about the recent legal migrants who haven't stolen anything and are being robbed (used as slaves).

@OldSovPub You guys may have done this already but I used to run an ecom company buying shipping labels via automated portel. I got a rep in from the company and they basically gave me like 70% off their publicly available shipping rates after that. You can negotiate with them hugely

We are happy for people to build up a number of purchases over a period of time and then ship it all at once just fyi. Just email us with your order number and preferences. For customers who really support us, we are looking at removing shipping entirely and sending their items once a quarter for free. We don't need to make DHL rich and want to try and circumvent it how we can for people. Longer term solution is US distribution but we need to go one step at a time

Air shipping, but with tariff and custom control being what it is, there is no way of shipping in a way that isn't pre-approved. Books are 0% rated but the postal service isn't always aware of that and there are hold ups/problems to the point that most low cost carrier have stopped shipping entirely. We essentially have to pay for a premium service to allow the goods to pass smoothly, tariff free.

If you want nice things to stay around you have to pay for them, otherwise all that's left is cheap slop. There is a lesson in this. Support people and businesses doing things the right way.

@OldSovPub Wow! I show $39 USD to ship one book. You guys are paying $45 to ship that? Is this airshipping? Do you have any shipper relationships you can negotiate?

We are working on it but things are heading in the wrong rather than the right direction. We currently take a hit of around $6 per package to the US. In the longer-term, there is hope of running distribution from a US hub which would reduce the cost significantly. In the mean time you can reach out to us and bundle your order together over time and have a single shipment per year for example.

Always fascinated how people in the middle ages for hundreds of years just lived amongst the ever decrepitating Roman ruins. It was just a part of daily life for them.

"Canada’s story gets even more depressing when only young people under 25 are counted. The country then falls to 71st, another new low. Young people were once, on average, the happiest Canadian cohort; now they’re the most miserable. And when compared to 136 countries, that 10-year drop in life satisfaction is one of the largest in the world, placing Canada just four slots from the bottom."
The Globe and Mail@globeandmail

In the country’s worst-ever showing in the 14 years that the report has been published, Canada ranked 25th out of 147 countries in the life-satisfaction standings. theglobeandmail.com/life/article-c…

I think this is important too. In my case I have good health insurance through my husband, but he’s a high school teacher so that pays… not great. However we get an extra $625 each month in foot money

W/ many writers: often a partner with a steady job & healthcare, parents who help out, friends & supporters w/support. You don't have to screenshot tax returns, but we need more honesty in the field about how hard things are. Otherwise, we have invisible class distinctions.

Public sector employment in Canada grew 27% over the past decade. The private sector grew 13%. Today, roughly one in five Canadian workers is in the public sector. Self-employment continues to decline. Here is the uncomfortable math: Step 1: Businesses create goods and services people voluntarily pay for. Step 2: That creates revenue and profit. Step 3: Taxes on that activity fund hospitals, pensions, schools and infrastructure. When business openings fall below closures, the long-term funding base shrinks... That is exactly what recent data shows. If we want sustainable social programs, we need a growing tax base powered by productive companies. A thriving country requires both effective public services and an aggressive commitment to entrepreneurship. Right now, we are underinvesting in the second. Canada needs to fall in love with capitalism again... rosssimmonds.com/blog/canadians…

Aaaaaarrrrgh. Lunch today with someone who’s plugged into the publishing industry. No editors are buying non fiction because— shocker— no one has the required attention span. Slop sells. Self help sells. We are so screwed. (My 2 well reviewed books are non fiction.)
