@MuhrensLeftPeg @Peston How many wavers of the cross of St George do so in support of Starmer and the British government, do you suppose?

On my show last night, in the hours after the assaults in Golders Green, I talked to the transport secretary about the under-reported rise of antisemitism among young people. Heidi Alexander made a point of saying that education and the classroom is where much of the struggle against antisemitism must be focussed - because hatred of and contempt for Jews is prevalent in too many communities, social classes, ethnicities and faiths. The trigger, the proximate cause, is fury at Israel’s destruction of Gaza - for which Jews in general are often and wrongly held accountable. This notion that Jews should be blamed for the actions of Israel’s government is totally irrational and hateful. It is antisemitism, pure, simple and cancerous. But like the virus it is, antisemitism is manifesting through tropes that are new and centuries old. That’s why there is an imperative to engage with young people in schools, to help them understand why hatred of Jews is so destructive. The government has recently launched a review of antisemitism in schools, chaired by Sir David Bell. If you are in doubt that such an investigation is badly needed, read below what one teacher told me this morning (this is just one teacher and one school, but it is profoundly shocking and I doubt it’s anomalous). I teach at a London secondary school. The otherwise kindhearted children, empathetic and intelligent, bandy casual antisemitism about the classroom constantly. During a history lesson covering Hitler's Holocaust, a student deemed it "interesting" that "no country has ever wanted the Jews." With this in mind, the child was confused as to why, then, "we don't blame the Jews." He reckoned: “They must be doing something wrong.” I regularly remind students that Jews did not, and do not, "steal all the money!" I had to explain that Weimar Jews did not cause hyperinflation. Even 'old school' antisemitism is back, thanks to TikTok revisionism. And with great frequency, students remark that "Jews control the world" or that "Israel controls America." I was, above all else, distressed to catch students emailing each other pictures of Orthodox Jews "as a joke" because "they look funny." This, more than anything else, frightens me. For, in mockery of something as basic as appearance, a line is crossed; misinformation is dwarfed by the purest, most ancient form of contempt: one that lessons on economics or history will struggle to defeat.

@NatanCohen17 @YidVids Absolutely this. The abysmal recruitment and failure to sign anyone useful in Jan is a total dereliction of duty from the ownership, and it's been utterly pathetic from the players, but had we not become the Tottenham Knee Hospital, we'd be well out of this.

@YidVids I actually think it is the main reason we’re going down. It’s not the main reason we’re shit, but I do think if we didn’t have the injury issues, we’d at least be above the drop right now

It's not the main reason Spurs are (likely) going down but look at the amount of unavailable players we've had per matchday this season. Incredible run of injuries (and suspensions). 248 absences so far in 34 Gameweeks. Averaging out at 30% of the senior playing squad per week.

@DaleJohnsonBBC A bit out there I know, but what if the "panel" made themselves redundant by training the absolute weapons currently operating VAR how to do their jobs properly, instead of making decisions that half the country knows are wrong within seconds?

Sunderland striker Brian Brobbey should have been sent off against Tottenham, the Premier League's KMI Panel has said. Brobbey pushed Cristian Romero into keeper Antonin Kinsky but escaped a second yellow. Romero suffered a season-ending knee injury. 👇 bbc.co.uk/sport/football…

@SniersMoregut I wouldn't take him over Romero, VdV or even Vuskovic. But he's a solid defender, rarely makes mistakes and gives it his all. He doesn't even deserve criticism let alone racial abuse. Doubt most of these morons have set foot in the country, let alone the stadium. Bloody twitter.

@Ollie_Davis The guy is famous for giving a goal that didn't go in the net. There's no conspiracy. The standard of officiating is as bad as it's ever been and we are far too pliant to get decisions.

@pokeefe1 @THSTOfficial It's an odd statement. "Our preference" etc. But pretty clear anecdotally that there seems to be a fair bit of opposition among the fanbase to the appointment. We don't ask for the canvassing numbers when they talk about the board or ticket prices so why is this different?

@THSTOfficial You're supposed to be representative of the fans. What dialogue have you sought before producing a statement. "Our preference". The trust isn't about your preference. You've forgotten the core point of your being.

📢 Just so that it is clear for all of my followers & non followers. I am just an average English man that will always speak his mind, i will ask questions when i want answers & i will never change. Im not a political professional or a scholar of any religion & i will never claim to be. If you dont like that then go be a snowflake elsewhere. I was born in a land that gives me a birth right to free speech & i intend to use it. You may not agree with everything i say and that is totally fine because i didnt create this account to get caught in an echo-chamber. Just a Bastard doing Bastard things.

@Bushra1Shaikh I love posts like this. They showcase beautifully the fact that there is no way to expose people for what they truly as effectively as simply giving them a social media platform and just letting them go. Brilliant.

If the Muslim community had ambulances in London it would be framed by the media and some of the political class as "taking over" or "an act of dominance." But when it's the Jewish community, it's "charity".

@tripleroads @Mightymishriff @OfficialFPL "If an own goal is scored following a deflected pass, an assist is awarded". That is literally what happened. The own goal itself is not a defensive touch, otherwise the quoted sentence would never apply.

@tweetledumbo @Mightymishriff @OfficialFPL It’s clearly says “no assist will be awarded if the pass receives two or more defensive touches.” The pass hit two Bournemouth players.

@DaleJohnsonBBC If that is the correct application of VAR, then its use is deeply flawed. As an objective fan, the foul on Amad was clearer than the foul on Evanilson. That one should not be given and the other result in a red card and penalty is an injustice that VAR should be used to avoid.

On Amad and Evanilson penalty situations. Both might or might not have been penalties. They are subjective, in the grey zone. So on-field decision stands. VAR's role is not, and ever has been, to create consistency of decision making. Each is judged individually. #BOUMUN

@michaelc1961 @Hazard39 Given how well the last 7 attempts at progress since Poch have worked out, what is it that makes you think that we can now, all things considered, attract a manager who offers a better option than the best manager we've had in a generation?

Right now, the priority has to be to do whatever is required to stay up. Beyond that, we need a manager who can unite the club, improve the players he has, work within the confines of the ownership and play good football. One man ticks every box and wants the job. Bring him home.
