Nope - We’ve been fighting for competition in mobile stores and payments for all developers. When Fortnite players buy V-bucks using Epic’s payment system instead of Apple or Google’s they earn 20% back in Epic Rewards. Epic Rewards are granted instantly for Fortnite purchases on mobile or PC.

Apple has quietly halted App Store updates for popular AI "vibe-coding" applications most notably the $9 billion startup Replit and mobile app builder Vibecode. After months of pushback, Apple is reportedly demanding major UX changes. Replit is being asked to force its generated app previews to open in an external web browser rather than natively inside its app. Vibecode was told it must completely remove the ability to generate software specifically for Apple devices.

I have long thought this is a terrible idea for consumers, who value the convenience of vertically integrated tech services like Google search results, Facetime, and Amazon Prime.
I understand why it's appealing to some smaller companies, but my view is that we shouldn't put their interests ahead of consumers' interests.
You know I'm a huge fan of yours and your work to bring sanity to CA politics. We disagree on this but I remain a fan. And my personal rule is to argue on substance.

@rule_of_reason Interesting question. Not sure how one could get at it. There is clear self-preferencing, there is clear revenue sharing terms from being owned by monopoly power, there is clear use of data they only have through other O&Os. But a lot of softer benefits too.

And Google generates 4x as much ad revenue as YouTube. And guess what? Google owns YouTube and provides most user data "signal" and discovery that has boosted it. And Google is a 'recidivist monopolist' according to DOJ + 4 federal courts.

People love the convenience of Amazon. People don’t love drivers peeing in bottles, warehouse workers breaking their backs, bullying small businesses, price manipulation.

Brazil's ruling on Apple's violations of Brazilian law has greenlit exactly the kind of junk fees that the US District Court found unlawful in its Contempt of Court ruling, and the 9th Circuit Court upheld: a 15% junk fee...for tapping a link that takes you to a web page.
