Imagine telling a people who have never in all of human history been "collectively wealthy" that all they need to do to "fight racism" is suddenly, magically, become "collectively wealthy."
The average IQ of black Americans is 85--a level that used to qualify as mentally retarded, which was politically unpalatable in the early 1970s, so they reduced mentally retarded to 75 IQ.
Now only 25% of black Americans qualify as mentally retarded. I'm sure they're rapidly on their way to becoming "collectively wealthy," right?
That still leaves black Americans head and shoulders above the intellect of black Africans, however. In sub-Sahara Africa the average IQs of the dozens of nations is in the 60s, sometimes in the 50s. That might explain why Africa, too, has yet to become "collectively wealthy."
Next I expect some black woman will be telling black Americans that all they need to do to fight racism is to stop having such poor emotional control, stop being so prone to insane violence, and maybe stop murdering people at 8x the rate of the white population.
I expect all of those are about as likely as them becoming "collectively wealthy."

I'm going to say something that might upset some people, but I believe it deeply and the evidence backs it up. The single most powerful thing Black people anywhere in the world can do to fight racism is to become collectively wealthy. Not just individually successful, but wealthy as a community. I watched this happen with other groups. When Japan was poor, Japanese people in America were put in internment camps. When Japan got rich, suddenly everyone wanted a Toyota and Japanese culture became aspirational. Korean Americans were targets of violence in the early 1990s. Today, after South Korea's economic rise, Korean culture is one of the most admired in the world. The pattern is so consistent it's almost boring: poverty invites contempt, prosperity commands respect. So when I hear debates about fighting racism in America, I always think the same thing. Yes, call out injustice when you see it, absolutely. But also build businesses, create wealth, and invest in your children's education like your life depends on it. Make your community so economically powerful that discrimination becomes expensive for anyone who practices it. That is how you win the game everyone else already figured out.

When slavery was legal in the United States, a mere 1.5% of white people owned slaves.
Interestingly, almost as large a percentage of BLACK people owned slaves, a full 1%.
That means that if you as a black person are descended from black people living in the United States during slavery, you are infinitely more likely to be descended from slaveowners than am I as a white person whose family only immigrated to the US long after the Civil War ended slavery.
And if you are NOT descended from black people living in the United States during slavery, quit your bitching.

And single young women are four times more likely than married young women to report feeling physically unsafe.
Men's protector role shouldn't be dismissed. Feeling safe and protected is significantly linked to women's happiness and a range of other well-being measures.
