Just had a 20 minute argument at a dinner party with a guy who claimed “with certainty” that he took the longest baths in the entire city

@matthuang anecdotally i tend to prefer instruments that ive seen people make it w/:
-ive seen a lot of ppl get rich on spot/memecoins
-ive seen a lot of ppl get rich on perps (and usually lose it all too)
-i rarely see ppl get rich on buying options
-but no one gets rich sports betting

met a kid at a coworking space last tuesday. 20 years old. makes $11k/month managing google ads for garage door companies. i asked why garage doors. he said "i typed random services into google maps and looked for businesses running terrible ads. garage door companies had the worst ads i had ever seen in my life. one of them was spending $4,000 a month sending traffic to a homepage with no phone number on it." he emailed 60 of them. 9 replied. he closed 4 at $1,500/month and got them actual results within the first 3 weeks. that was 7 months ago. hes at 8 clients now and just hired his first contractor. he doesnt post content. he doesnt have a website. he has a gmail address and a google ads account and he picks niches by looking for people who are already spending money badly. everyone wants to sell to sexy tech companies. this kid is getting rich off garage doors and he cant stop smiling about it.

Here’s what’s gonna happen:
- you replace your code review with feedback loops (sentry, datadog, support tickets, etc)
- you stop reading the code
- software factory fixes everything
- one day something breaks at 3am, agent can’t fix it
- nobody’s read the code in 3 months
- you have 3 weeks of downtime trying to re-onboard and fix it
- you lose significant % of your contracts and users
- your company is now dead

@gregpr07 this may surprise you that thus is coming from me but I think we’re in for a 1-3 year period where stuff might break at 3am and if you’re relying on loops to fix it and nobody understands what’s under the hood, you’re looking at an existential threat to your company
