Knowing that you will never grow old. Hearing that you have something incurable over and over, but seeking a semi-normal life. The way people side step around talking about it. Pretending that everything is okay. The way people look at you w/pity. You still grow weak if it’s not sudden. No longer being able to do the things you enjoy like hiking or camping. Giving up driving with your independence because it’s safer for others. Every day, or every month, something else stops working. It’s surreal to lose control over parts of your mind and body. You used to be the one who opened the doors or reached the top shelf to get things down for people. You become the one that is humble and grateful when the someone does the tiny things for you. Going to multiple weekly or monthly doctor appointments. Sitting in a room full of patients at a clinic or infusion center. When your eyes meet, there’s grace or fear. Witnessing others who are suffering too. Your reflection does not have wrinkles. Instead, you see visible signs of stress or muscle/fat wasting as your natural warm complexion turns to yellow and grey. Sometimes you wanna give up. But there’s people you love more than you love yourself. You swallow the pain and your pride as you deteriorate. When fatigue wipes you out — other people have to help do your chores. Some days, you have to sleep a little longer. Some nights, you don’t sleep at all. Feeling defeated when you finally accept you can no longer work. College was a waste. All the knowledge you’ve got to contribute to the world is bottled up inside. Praying every night that you’ll wake up. Thanking God every morning for another day. Seeking healing while balancing acceptance so you can cope. Believing in and praying for miracles. Witnessing miracles. Waiting on your miracle. Not understanding the why. Sharing a testimony of faith and endurance. Trying to not complain. Losing friends or self isolating because no one else can handle the grief while you are still alive. ❤️‍🩹 Finding solace in salvation through Jesus Christ and believing that you will get a new body when you get to the other side. Trying to be joyful and enjoy moments w/family and friends so they have good memories. Lying next to your significant other while comforting them. It must be difficult to watch your loved one fade and not be able to fix it. The train is still coming and you’re caught up on the tracks. There’s no outrunning the train once you see it coming. Only hope and prayers for more time. Make the best of each day. Tomorrow isn’t promised for anyone. ♥️ The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.
