This finding is timely given a recent House committee report (covered here in the Washington Post - washingtonpost.com/climate-enviro…) showing how oil companies are actively pushing carbon capture and storage as a way to delay making changes to their core business.

Using an online survey experiment, we find that conservative respondents who read a renewable energy policy alongside a second independent carbon capture and storage policy lower their support for renewable energy.

@twmarlow Your research was just mentioned by a Sentaor during a hearing on content moderation and bots on Twitter/FB. Congrats on making it to the Senate record!

@asociologist would the census not work? The NHGIS or the national longitudinal tract database are both great for this

@trebornnylf Ah no the first transition is the construction of the highway. Then the highway moves again in the second transition. They just look different because of the image quality/time of day the pictures were taken.

Just finished making this gif showing the transformation of downtown Providence, 1951-2018. It really illustrates the massive impact urban renewal and highway construction have had on the landscape of the city. #rstats #ggplot2 #imager

@jcarterharrison North of the highway is the Jewelry District. It has rebranded as a “knowledge district” and sought university and tech business investment. Therefore construction of high end housing and factory reno has been the priority

@twmarlow What's the development plan for the post-industrial area on the left? Any housing going in?

@OurHiddenHistry Might not be surprised but these policies disproportionately impacted already disempowered communities. The Fox Point neighborhood for example was a vibrant Cape Verdean community in the US prior to hwy construction. Fox Point is the NE area razed by the hwy running east-west

Excited to announce that I've accepted a position as Assistant Professor of Code + Liberal Arts at The New School's Eugene Lang liberal arts college. Looking forward to teaching code poems, games, and computer viruses and thinkin about how much code an English major should know.
