@TheNateDog_ I think the problem isn't we need an esports degree, it's that we need people who know how to leverage synergistic knowledge/skill bases. If you break esports into its product components degrees exist already for each. (Business, Digital Media etc )

Following up on the esports major conversation, a lot of the pushback was consistent: “It’s not comparable to traditional sports pathways.” Or “It’s not worth the investment due to lack of industry sustainability and careers.” And right now… that’s true. Which raises a another question: What does esports actually need to become a sustainable industry, not just an emerging one? Because if it’s going to justify its place in higher education, it needs more than interest and participation. It needs: •Clear, reliable career pathways •Strong ties between education and industry •Defined roles beyond just competition •Long-term organizational stability •A model that produces real ROI for institutions and students The reality is, traditional sports didn’t earn their place overnight, they built structure over time. Esports is still in that process. So beyond the focus on where esports fits… What does it need to become in order to last? Curious what others think is still missing.
TheNateDog@TheNateDog_

Is esports becoming a legitimate major in higher education, or should it stay a minor or certification? Esports sits at the intersection of: • Marketing • Sales • Operations • Broadcasting • Design That’s what makes it powerful… and complicated. Does it make sense as a standalone major, or is it better as a concentration layered onto existing degrees? Because esports doesn’t replace industries, it builds on top of them. So what’s the smarter move: Create a major pathway, or integrate it into what already exists? Curious where people stand.

Recruiting Myths vs. Reality ⬇️ Myth: D3 is a “safety” option when D1/D2 fall through Reality: Many talented athletes choose D3 for better fit & stronger academics Myth: No athletic scholarships = you’ll pay more Reality: +80% of D3 athletes get non-athletic aid. Run the numbers before you rule out D3 Myth: Coaches will reach out if you’re good enough Reality: Transfer portal pressure means D3 rosters fill faster w/ proactive recruits Myth: Virtual recruiting was just a COVID thing Reality: Personalized emails + short highlight videos still win, bc D3 coaches are busier than ever

@Stanley_Studios @Existsindeath @MonteCristo NCAA asked their membership in 2019 if they even wanted to look into esports and the athletic directors said no. So unless a ton has changed in admins view at member schools I can't imagine they care. A big reason is that unlike trad sports a company owns each game played

@Existsindeath @MonteCristo I’m sure most colleges want their piece and then some conferences and ncaa in general will want their cut. So without that happening and without deals being made you won’t see a big portion making the jump. Not because the product won’t be good but because they don’t control $$&

It’s the fourth year in a row Minnesota has no snow in February and it’s raining outside. China is becoming the worlds only hope.

Participating in a varsity high school esports program is not “just playing video games” in the same way participating in a varsity high school basketball program isn’t just shooting hoops in your driveway.

What possible reason in this world could my baby monitor have for needing an update over wifi? If I see my babies, that's all I need you to do.

Recruiting in Collegiate esports is broken until now. Players get featured. Schools get signal. Everyone gets clarity and opportunity. VarsityGG goes public next week and the waitlist closes tomorrow night. Tag players that need this.

@CoachHylian NDA will never let us know for sure, but there is a decent amount of the artists community got the impression it meant he was paid well and Bungie didn't have to remake their game. But yeah we'll never know as long as the NDA is in place, if it's like you say and he got shafted

@tyjcollins Bungie barely did anything to rectify it besides apologize and try to be nice to the designer. Of course the settlement was kept under NDA which that in and of itself is predatory and means the designer got shafted in the long run for their work that stolen in the first place.

At the end of spring semester, I communicated with the teams that I wanted us to shoot for 3.5 program cumulative GPA. The students rose to the challenge. We're still on our way to meeting this goal, but a good sign to see so many students putting in the work! #morethangames

Success is more than the wins and losses. Several Rams stepping it up and making the most of classroom opportunities! Because they understand that #morethangames means becoming equipped for their future careers where they can make a difference
