Excited to share our latest preprint “The role of modes in nonlinear fiber optical computing”. We show that fiber optical computation does not use all supported modes but instead emerges in a low-dimensional, task-dependent modal subspace. arxiv.org/abs/2512.10035

We show that multimode optical fibers can naturally implement recurrent neural networks through passive light propagation. Just light recirculating through a fiber loop, generating fading memory states via interference and nonlinear dynamics.

Our new manuscript: “Multimode fiber laser cavities as nonlinear optical processors.”
CW multimode fiber-laser cavities act as compact, low-power nonlinear processors for optical computing—high accuracy with a simple linear readout.

Greetings from San Francisco! It is good to be back at Photonics West.
We will be giving our talks on January 20th and 21st. You can find us in the “Photonic AI accelerators,” “Photonic Neural Network I & II,” and “Diffractive Optical Processors” sessions.

New manuscript: "Self-optimizing multichannel optical computing" 🎉
Most optical AI wastes multichannel information. We don't.
Light does the computing. The system optimizes itself.

Next week, we are heading to San Francisco for @PhotonicsWest to showcase our latest work.
With my grad students, we are attending to present 6 talks and 2 posters.
Check the attached schedule for times and room numbers in Moscone West.
Congratulations to my team!

New year, new manuscript 🎉
Our new manuscript introduces an optical spiking neural network that exploits rogue-wave statistics as a passive nonlinear activation mechanism for energy-efficient optical computing.

Excited to share our latest preprint “Engineering Rogue Waves via Multimode Interactions in Integrated Waveguides” now on arXiv!
In this study, we show that rogue waves can be engineered via modal excitation in multimode waveguides.
