Claims that Muslims are killing Christians in Nigeria or forcing them to convert to Islam are a gross distortion of reality. What is happening in Nigeria is a complex security and political crisis, not an Islamic project. Islam explicitly forbids forcing anyone to accept the faith “There is no compulsion in religion” (Qur’an 2:256). A person becomes Muslim only by personal conviction, not by threats or violence.
The killing of innocent people, whether Christian or Muslim, is a crime and is condemned in Islam. Many of the victims of violence in Nigeria are Muslims themselves. Turning a national security failure into a religious narrative is propaganda that fuels hatred and ignores the real causes of the conflict: weak governance, criminal gangs, insurgency, and poverty not Islamic teachings
