Nigeria/Biafra Civil War: My Experience Wars are remembered through dates, maps, and political decisions. But the true story of war is found in the lives of the men and women who stood on the front lines. In Nigeria/Biafra Civil War: My Experience, Achike Udenwa takes readers into the heart of one of Africa's most devastating conflicts. This is not a secondhand account or a reconstruction based on archives. It is the gripping testimony of a soldier who fought, commanded troops, planned military operations, and survived the Nigerian-Biafran Civil War. From the uncertainty of a young cadet thrust into battle to the immense responsibilities of military command, Udenwa recounts the realities of war. He reveals the courage and sacrifices of ordinary soldiers whose stories have rarely been told, while providing an insider's view of the platoons, companies, battalions, and brigades that carried the war on their shoulders. Far more than a military memoir, this book challenges familiar narratives by exposing the gap between official histories and the lived experiences of those on the battlefield. It explores leadership under impossible circumstances, the cost of conflict, the strength of the human spirit, and the decisions that shaped lives long after the guns fell silent. For readers seeking to understand the Nigerian-Biafran Civil War from the inside, this is an indispensable account. Rich in firsthand detail and historical insight, it offers a rare perspective that will engage historians, military professionals, students, and anyone interested in Nigeria's past and its legacy. Some books recount history. This one places you in the middle of it. About the Author Achike Uzoma Udenwa was born in Amaifeke, Orlu, Imo State, Nigeria. He attended Government College Umuahia, where his early military training as a member of the school's cadet unit, affiliated with the 1st Battalion of the Nigerian Army, laid the foundation for an extraordinary journey. When the Nigerian-Biafran Civil War broke out, he joined the II Battalion of the Biafran Army in Onitsha as an instructor before being commissioned as a Second Lieutenant. Rising to the rank of Captain, he served in several critical command and operational roles, including Platoon Commander, Company Commander, Battalion Commander, and General Staff Officer III (Operations) of the 52 Brigade. Decades later, he would serve his country, as the elected Governor of Imo State from 1999 to 2007. This is his story. In If This Giant Must Rise: Interventions on Leadership and Governance in Nigeria, former governor, minister, scholar, and democracy advocate Kayode Fayemi offers an informed answer. Drawing from decades of public service, policy engagement, and intellectual leadership, Fayemi examines the forces shaping governance in Nigeria and across the continent while presenting a compelling vision for building stronger institutions and more effective leadership. Rather than merely diagnosing Africa's challenges, this book provides a roadmap for addressing them. It explores the realities of insecurity, political instability, democratic governance, economic inequality, and institutional reform, demonstrating how visionary leadership, strategic planning, and collaborative governance can unlock sustainable development. Why Read This Book: The book combines personal experience with rigorous analysis to reveal the principles of effective governance and nation-building. The Making of Northern Nigeria's Most Influential Leader - Ahmadu Bello Born into the aristocratic traditions of the Sokoto Caliphate, Ahmadu Bello's journey to leadership began long before he emerged as the most influential political figure in Northern Nigeria. His childhood was shaped by a rich heritage of Islamic scholarship, traditional authority, and a deep sense of responsibility to his community. This reading from Decolonizing Nigeria by Bola Dauda and Toyin Falola explores the formative years of Ahmadu Bello, tracing how family lineage, religious education, and the cultural environment of Northern Nigeria moulded his character and leadership philosophy.

Poetry, Trees and the Battle Against the Concrete Jungle In this conversation, the author of Entropy, Servio Gbadamosi, explores the deep connection between poetry, nature, and cultural identity. Drawing on the symbolism of trees and landscapes @betaservio presents the poet as more than a writer of verses.
