The golden years of AirBNB were a temporary arbitrage on depreciation.
There was a universe of beautiful well-maintained properties and hosts that had not been worn down by short term guests.
And the AirBNB hosts didn’t properly estimate the cost of depreciation to maintain that standard, so costs were irrationally low
That era fundamentally cant return, it was a temporary arbitrage opportunity
There was once a supply of fairly pristine unused space and now there’s not
If a space does manage to hit the 2014 standard, it must charge a lot more to fight depreciation
And at that point a hotel is generally better

@MurrayHillGuy1 How do you get past the filters in the apps though? I was lucky enough to get married before this was a thing
English

Height matters way less than most of you think.
I’m short dating a girl taller than me.
One of my boys is 5’5 and has never dated a girl below 5’8.
Ironically the girls who care the most about height are always like 5’1.
The taller girls want the shorter guys to approach them.
Shoot your shots, short kings.

@SandyofCthulhu @Fat_Electrician That may be true, but I think it’s also true that the domestic commies are trying to “rediscover” environmentalism after the general pivot to Palestinian activism lost its allure. Even Greta is probably too tired of flotillas

@FrankLuntz That sounds like the Oslo accords which brought us 95% of the way to Israeli Palestinian peace

@ChristianHeiens It’s sad to see how many white men are not willing to sacrifice themselves for Gaza. Shameful.
English

You can give up your own life in service to Leftist causes and Leftists will completely forget about you in three weeks because you’re White.
Remember that soldier who set himself on fire for Gaza and then Leftists went on X to tell their followers that they’d “better not celebrate a white man who wore a uniform”?
This is an ideology that demands a level of totalizing commitment that rivals Islam, even as it treats its lowest caste members (White men) as borderline subhuman.

@CoachSchardein @das_mchl @bryanrbeal In western PA, you either go to UPMC or Allegheny system. Both have these fees and virtually every specialist in things like cardiology is in one of the systems, so at best you’re going to a GP to avoid the specialist
English

Oh they absolutely tell you upfront - they sent a letter when they added the fee and they mention it when they book. But for most people they’re not the ones paying it directly, and they’re not going to switch away from the doctor they’ve seen for ten years for it. And the system has a monopoly on all specialists.
English

If I have to see an NP instead of a real doctor, I want a 50% discount on my bill
This is quite the racket healthcare providers have devised. Most of the time you go to the “doctor“ you’ll never see a doctor at all. You’ll see a nurse practitioner. But they’ll still bill you as if you had seen a doctor. Even though the nurse practitioners are far less educated and trained, and paid much less.
The Wall Street Journal@WSJ
Employers are clamoring for workers who can do doctor-like work but who are trained faster and can cost them less. on.wsj.com/4wMBXbr
English

And it’s 100-200 dollars when all you do is talk to the doctor, not even get a procedure. So they likely cover the monthly rent and staffing in one day and pocket the rest.
Insurance / gov should not be paying for the buildings for OVs. It pays for procedures and it pays OR charges when there is surgery
English

@das_mchl @udekel @bryanrbeal they are billing these as hospital outpatient departments, you get billed a professional fee and facility fee. The building may look identical to a normal clinic, but from an insurance and billing standpoint it’s treated more like part of the hospital.
English

It’s the biggest employer in the region - I’m sure they’re covered legally. I think the core problem is that an office visit charges a facility fee to pay for rent and staff and that the fee is ridiculous because insurance probably pays less but they can use it in their fake “nonprofit” calculation to deduct “charitable care”.

@bryanrbeal It’s really just a legal form of bilking the government. Probably ends up costing more than the Somali daycares or the home medical assistant fraud.
English

@bryanrbeal Yes, but a suburban office building where you can also get lunch and a a bikini wax isn’t one. Yet they call it a “hospital” because they affiliated the doctors group and charge a “hospital fee”. And insurance (and probably Medicare/medicaid) pays.
