Pig Butchering and the Money Laundering behind it When people hear “pig butchering scam”, they think of fake romances or bogus investment apps. But there’s a part of this scam few talk about: how the stolen funds are laundered and whose names end up in the system. This is where it gets darker. The Scam Itself Pig butchering starts like many online scams: A scammer, usually posing as an attractive person from the opposite gender, befriends you, mostly on social media, gains your trust and then nudges you into a “once-in-a-lifetime” investment. At first, you see fake profits displayed on a website run by the perpetrators. Then, one day, your account is “locked”, maybe you have to add “unlocking fees” or “taxes” and at a certain point in time, your contact disappears and your money is gone. I’m pretty sure you have heard these stories already. What’s less known is that many of the scammers that are after your money aren’t free people. From Scam to Slavery In Southeast Asia, especially in Myanmar’s Kayin State, huge fenced compounds operate like scam factories. The most infamous was KK Park, a sprawling high-rise complex surrounded by barbed wire and armed guards, which was taken down by authorities early this year. But many of the facilities remain operational. This is the reality only few know of: Young people from China, Vietnam, the Philippines and other countries are lured in with fake job offers at these sights. Once inside, their passports are confiscated and they’re forced to run scam call centres, send fake investment pitches and even hand over their own identity documents. Why IDs Matter Those IDs become tools for the second crime: laundering stolen crypto. With a real face and passport, criminals open accounts on major exchanges. These “money mule” accounts receive the illicit funds, move them through several steps and cash out or buy luxury goods online. So when law enforcement follows the blockchain trail, they find….at the very best… the trafficking victim, but not the real masterminds who are well-connected, wealthy and often protected by corrupt officials. How the Laundering Works 1️⃣ A couple of hops on the chain Incriminated funds are received on non-custodial wallets and sent through a series of additional wallet addresses controlled by the fraudsters. 2️⃣ Mixers / Tumblers Afterwards, funds are sent through services that blend multiple users’ coins, breaking the trail. 3️⃣ Bridging to TRON A favourite move: bridge stolen funds from Ethereum or Bitcoin to TRON. Why TRON? Its USDT transfers are cheap, fast and harder to track in detail even for professional analytics tools. 4️⃣ Final cash-out Funds land in accounts opened with victims’ KYC data (remember those people in the prison-like facility), are sold via OTC or withdrawn in cash locally. Why This Works Crypto KYC checks verify an identity (at best), not whether that person is acting willingly. Laundering happens across multiple chains, some with weaker analytics coverage. By the time money reaches fiat, it has passed through so many wallets, bridges and accounts that tracing it is costly and slow. The Hidden Tragedy In blockchain investigations, the “bad guy” on paper might actually be a prisoner, locked in a 12-storey compound, living under constant threat of violence. That doesn’t make the scam less harmful for victims who lose money, but it changes how one thinks about the people whose names are visible on the KYC forms. Stay alert, verify before you trust, and remember: In the world of pig butchering, the person sending you a message might be a criminal… or a captive. I’ve always been a firm believer in the $BTC November Cycles Theory. Like any model, it can’t predict the future with absolute precision, but it provides a solid framework for reasonable expectations. The chart below shows where we stood in mid-2023, right on track for history to repeat. Since then, a few months (and a few shitshows from ... ehmm ... “influential” people) have passed, leading some to believe we’re in an unprecedented early bear market. Out of curiosity, I overlaid the chart with the data from mid-2023 to March 2025 to see how far we’ve deviated. Turns out, we’re still pretty much on track - showing striking similarities to 2021. I’m sticking to the plan, anticipating a potential shortened cycle and gradually DCAing out from summer through eoy. Not saying anyone should follow my approach, but it’s food for thought and maybe a counterpoint to the current wave of negativity. WAGMI frens, let's win lazy....

DÆMONS is preparing for its Alpha Testing in mid-March, with the full launch set for May. The game will be accessible via a web browser, available on both mobile and PC with no app required. In DÆMONS, players will have Daemon pets as both playable characters and collectibles. These pets will evolve over time, influenced by the user’s blockchain activity and can be customized based on the on-chain history. You can get ready already now by purchasing a DÆMONS Concept NFT on Opensea. Holding one of these NFTs will grant you free Dæmon pets and additional perks with more to be revealed in the future. Another option would be to make sure your community sets up a partnership with the Dæmons project - who knows, there might be (free) perks 🤯.
