We’ve slowly lost something important… the simple act of checking up on people. A few days ago, in the middle of my normal routine (working on my post, a graphic design for my web 2 client) I randomly remembered an old friend. We hadn’t spoken in about a year, but something pushed me to reach out. So, I texted him. What shocked me first was that the message didn’t even deliver. This was someone who was always online. Still, I brushed it off and went back to work hoping he'll reply soon. Not long after, another friend texted me, someone with almost the same “we haven’t talked in a while” history. We started chatting, then called, just catching up and vibing. At some point, I mentioned the first friend… just casually, just to ask if he had heard from him. Then there was silence. A kind of silence that didn’t feel normal. I kept calling his name… “Bro, you there?” Then he finally said, quietly, “So you don’t know?” My heart dropped. He told me our friend had died… months ago. I didn’t even know how to react. It felt unreal. Heavy. Like something inside me just broke all at once. The tears came without warning. So much for “men don’t cry.” I couldn’t work again that day. Later, while sitting with everything, a thought hit me hard: At that same moment, I was trying to check up on someone Someone else was checking up on me One person answered. The other never will. And that’s when it really sank in… This could be anybody. It could be me. It could be you. What if he had tried to reach me and I didn’t respond? What if the last message just stayed undelivered forever? Life doesn’t wait. Life doesn’t warn. Since that moment, something changed in me. ✦ How I speak to people. ✦ How I show up for people. ✦ How I live my life. Because at the end of the day, no matter how busy or stressed we are… we have to try. > Check up on people. > Be kind while you still can. > Live in a way that you’ll be remembered with love. Because one day, a message won’t deliver… and that will be the end of the conversation. If you read till this point, I want you to check up on at least 3 of your friends, it might feel uneasy but just do it I pray we don’t die while still chasing our dream, AMEN
