Aim of the Constitution was to ensure legal protections against discrimination, formal equality and justice. Nowhere in the Constitution of 1950, were policies envisaged as they exists today, after the 1st, 81st, 82nd, 85th, 93rd and 103rd Amendment and PoA Act 1989. Article 16(4) only gave the extreme and time+objective bound exception to the rule of 16(1). Classes that secured adequate representation were to be excluded from the privilege. Reservations were extreme limited in scope and timeframe, and constrained by the standards of efficiency under Article 335. Article 15(4) was added in 1951. In 1950, there were 607 listed SC castes, today there are around 1200. There were 241 ST tribes, today they have grown to 744. The state has unreasonably enlarged the scope of the original Constitution. The argument that we have not achieved the objective of the Constitution drafters is incorrect. Their objective was never substantive equality, and their objective of safeguarding against discrimination was accomplished the day the Constitution was adopted. They weren't social engineers and knew there's no way to wish away discrimination, but law could provide justice to those affected by it.

Let us not forget that had shreds of Gupta period arts and objects not survived in relatively remote sites in India and in foreign accounts, that entire period would have been completely erased from Indian history if we only relied on Western style history. Because we haven't been a tomb culture for millennia, our objects and cultures weren't preserved for posterity by contemporaries (as in Egypt and China), and our buildings, temples, and other material aspects of our ancient kings were destroyed by foreign invaders in the heartlands of our ancient empires. So remember, we, our bodies, our traditions, our celebrations, our food, our arts are the living relics of our civilisation, and we must treat them with suitable reverence. We are our history.
