Managed to get a half decent shot of one of my Leaf Cutter Bees coming back to the nest chamber in the @uk_masonbees nest box. I never expected anything to actually use it this year after putting it up so late. Fantastic to sit and watch them #WexMondays #fsprintmonday

@welshbirders @TheEnglishExile Red Masons are about done for the year, (usually active between April-June, though was later this time) - there are still plenty of solitary species flying between now and the end of summer that use the tubes tho, so certainly still worth installing a nesting site at this time.

@TheEnglishExile @uk_masonbees I'm thinking you may be too late for this year... That's the feeling I'm getting

I’m so happy! Thanks to @GemmaCudlip agreeing to me putting up my @uk_masonbees box, I now have 3 active leaf cutter bees nesting in the pull out draw. And 1 other smaller bee (last tube on the right) which seems to be living there ☺️☺️☺️ going to try photograph them tonight 🐝📷

A few months ago I released some #masonbees onto the Cloud Garden. It didn't go to plan 👀🤦🏾♀️😂
I made a video showing what happened, their life cycle & the fabulous Guardian Programme from @uk_masonbees

If you do have to leave it, I'd certainly tell the new occupants the bee hotel is there, or fnd a friendly neighbour who will take responsibility for it in your absence. 👌

@SolitaryBeeWeek @lisajrwilliams @EDoorish @JeffOllerton @air_beenbee @SaviourBees @pollinatorproj @_Entomophily @AndWhitehouse @Buzz_dont_tweet @solitarybeesUK 2. Time of move. Moving a bee hotel st the wrong time of year and taking it away from an active population could be quite destructive. September-February would be fine to relocate, but if moving beteen March-September, it would probably be best to leave it.

@SolitaryBeeWeek @lisajrwilliams @EDoorish @JeffOllerton @air_beenbee @SaviourBees @pollinatorproj @_Entomophily @AndWhitehouse @Buzz_dont_tweet @solitarybeesUK On the one hand, you can take it with you, BUT things to consider: 1.. Distance. Solitary species can be highly specialised/regional - if moved to an area with different microclimate/flora, the bees may not survive - or worse, they do *really* well and disadvantage local species.

@uk_masonbees are you likely to have more guardian kits in?

@ReevesLj @B_G_Photography @brynature @handykam @TheGreenJeanie @LB_Loxley @CheshireWT @wildlife_diy @NatureUK @wildl Chicken wire will certainly keep the birds out - just be aware that if the holes are too small, it can put the bees off too! This looks OK tbh, but definitely worth observing for a few days, just to make sure the bees can still access the canes without issue 👌
English

@B_G_Photography @uk_masonbees @brynature @handykam @TheGreenJeanie @LB_Loxley @CheshireWT @wildlife_diy @NatureUK @wildl I had to put chicken wire over mine as the woodpecker found them 😥 Luckily I noticed quickly so could have been a lot worse and I gave the woodpeckers their own peanut feeder to keep them happy😁
