Overnight, U.S. and Israeli forces struck targets in Iran's capital of Tehran as President Trump confirmed major combat operations are underway. Iranian state TV announced counterattacks on U.S. bases, and Israel went on high alert, canceling school and closing workplaces.

Air raid sirens sounded across Tel Aviv as Israeli officials confirmed a joint U.S.–Israeli "preemptive strikes" on Iran, triggering retaliatory missile launches across the region. "In a moment we may need to get back in ... This is where they're closer to Tel Aviv," said CBS News' Charlie D'Agata as sirens blasted nearby. Israel’s Iron Dome intercepted many incoming rockets, though officials warned Iran’s missile capabilities pose a threat across the Middle East, with regional allies on high alert as attacks and counterattacks continue.

A person of interest was detained and later released in Tucson, Arizona, in connection with the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie on Tuesday. But a possible break in the case came hours earlier, when FBI Director Kash Patel shared images and videos of a subject in the disappearance of Guthrie. The images, which were recovered from the home security camera, showed a person wearing a ski mask and gloves. The person was carrying a backpack and appeared to also possibly have a gun holstered on their belt and attempting to cover cameras, raising questions about whether his inexperience could help investigators track him down, CBS News' @annaschecter reports.
