Average collectors can't "just hop on" tcgplayer and pay ridiculous scalper prices on a whim. He (along with others with deep pockets) were paying scalper prices in large amounts, giving sellers zero incentive to lower the cost on the product. As the cost of the box continues to go up, the more normies are priced out of enjoying the hobby they love. Very simple.

@KabutoKing_ Majority of the people buying / playing pokemon dont even play the games. They buy packs for artwork etc. The tcg will always be popular not because of the card game but because of the digital games which help promote the TCG indirectly.

Maybe you guys are right. Maybe the hobby has peaked. Take a look around. Everyone hating for clicks. Ragebaiting. Etc. Go to card shows. Everyone on their phones the entire time. It’s all about who can get that 1 extra percent. Everyone stacking sealed product, fighting each other at Target, scalping cards just to sell them for a quick buck. Grading is an absolute mess. The companies are slammed with ATH demand, customers upset at wait times and inconsistencies, and people don’t trust “the system”. For those who are 28-40 years old (most of us), what would our past-self think of the hobby now? Back then it was all about the cards, the collection, and trading. Nobody seems happy anymore. I can see this turning off a lot of people who have been in the hobby for a while, and I have already seen many such people say this.

@LazardBros Part 2. Cardshops have been buying etbs from distributors at $90 per etb on some products like prismatic evolutions. So cardshops had to charge $110-120 to make profit. They only get the first wave for below msrp after that its slightly below market. So you're entire post is bs.

@LazardBros What a stupid take. If pokemon company buys a distributor then the distributor will sell to the cardshops at MSRP which in turn will cause cardshops to sell at msrp or slightly above. Clearly you've done zero research part 1

Good news and bad news. Good news: Pokémon overseeing direct distributions and making sure product gets delivered where it should and haulting any sort of "hoarding" done by distributors to sell products for more profit by third parties. Bad news: Your LGS stores are more fucked now than ever on allocations. Pokémon is catering to big retail stores and this acquisition proves it.
