There are two main taliban gov groups in Afghanistan, the conservatives in Kandahar and the liberals in kabul.
Pakistan is a soft US ally, the Taliban were going to aid Iran in a US invasion so Pakistan is fighting Afghanistan to
1- weaken the Taliban so they won’t help Iran
2- take out the conservative Taliban gov
3- assess modern Taliban capabilities
