@aurelmondon It seems the commentariat are reducing history to bad = 1970s, good = 1980s
Funny given Gordon brown just said 1950s-1970s were a downward spiral, making it out like the whole postwar boom was a failure and Thatcherism the only solution
English

@aurelmondon It's shocking no journalists are asking Tory MPs how many of you believe US 2020 election was fair, and whether they think the next UK election will be fair
It's clear Truss is laying the groundwork for being what Blair is to the Labour Party, after the next election
English

@lastpositivist On Reddit HENRY (cursed group I was lurking in) I saw someone pay their nanny like 60k a year
Like more than a senior teacher in a school salary
Damn, should have done a PhD in nannying...
English

@Taj_Ali1 @lottelydia It's hard to think this isn't personal for the SNP, both in supporting the right to independence and Humzas connection
Although it does help them cover over their attacks on Labours windfall tax, which is utterly embarrassing
But there's no use for purity politics
English

Or maybe the SNP motion reflects their long-held position about the need for a ceasefire? Maybe it's actually about the Palestinians who have called for international solidarity. Maybe Labour could have put forward their own motion given they have 7x the number of opposition days
Kevin Schofield@KevinASchofield
It’s almost as if the whole point of the SNP motion and Tory amendment are to make things difficult for Labour.
English

@flying_rodent Bernie's whole approach is so strange, he's enough anti-Israel to be hated by Israeli politicians (low bar), but holds back criticism for some reason...
English

@mypalfootfoot7 Yes the 'Allies' took Berlin, most British and Americans literally think their armies took Berlin and it wasn't the Soviets...
English

What a ridiculous comparison. But very on brand
David Collier@mishtal
Opposing the Israeli army moving into Rafah is like opposing the allies taking Berlin in WW2. No.. stop. don't take Berlin. Just let the Nazis survive - what's the point of taking Berlin. Let's have a ceasefire instead. It would be that stupid.
English

@mypalfootfoot7 Gov budget is like a household, if you give your kids more money, they buy more goods, which nets you more cash, they have more money, which nets you more cash
In this analogy, really sounds like they hate their kids and that tax is either unimportant or illegitimate
English

@flying_rodent I guess no mention of all the independents? (I'm from Wellingborough) and there are plenty of locals running on Left wing platforms -notably it had a strong Left Labour party until everyone was purged in 2019
But I guess the 'real story' is Reform being there...
English

@logicsofworlds Introduced new America to my work is a nice way of saying Zizek's first, and best books, rely entirely on Badiou's politics
English

@aaronzwinter Reminds me of old industrial paternalism, where employers would provide housing, then use that to make sure if workers went on strike, broke some moral rule (such as drinking in bournville), not only would they lose their job, but also their house
English

British people = decent hardworking people
Everyone else = not decent, hardworking, rule followers, people or housed
Where the mainstreaming of racism and the far right, undermining the welfare state, exacerbating inequality, and making immigrants scapegoats for it meet.
Conservatives@Conservatives
We are making sure the allocation of social housing is fairer for people and cracking down on rule breakers.
English

@AyoCaesar But if not from corporation tax or taxing high earners, where is that money going to come from? Since they want 'tight fiscal rules', are they suggesting austerity to fund climate policies? (As opposed to the de facto austerity they already promised)
English

@Arbeit_Fish But they won't be satisfied, they will go full remainer, all problems will be solved by the EU
And lose their mind when Starmer does Rwanda but courts litigate each case, to throw red meat to culture warriors
English

@aurelmondon The use of "bring their families" not "bring their children" really sells this policy
English

@mypalfootfoot7 Tories love nothing more than ruining the chances of single parents
English

@Arbeit_Fish I mean it's the Latin American style of decol which is sadly super liberal. Some great Latin American Socialists, but sooo much of the popular scholarship from there, and much of the politicians, have never really been close to Left
English

@unbrokencocoon Ya Mignolo isn’t a socialist because he’s chilling on that Ivy League pay cheque
English

@mypalfootfoot7 It's the same as the Telegraph saying "BBC= bad cos everyone who works there is private schooled"
