It's it just me or is this horrible advice? Sure, sometimes you have to work hard when you don't want to, but I can think of thousands of examples where the ends absolutely don't justify the means.

We haven’t even gotten to the Big Dance yet and it feels like this program, at least from a majority of the fanbase’s perspective, is firmly at a crossroads again.
Standards have dropped, expectations aren’t being met, etc. People are frustrated, and a lot have been for a while.

We trailed some horrible teams by double digits.
We are no longer at dook's level. We beat them once. Rivalry game, gonna happen. But if we fire HD, name a top 20 program that would hire him. Nada.

The one and only contrast had to be dook. dook has gone 40-17 against Q1 in the same time period.

Intriguing discussion at the end of this pod on comparing UNC and Duke and the direction of the two programs... 24-7 w/ some massive wins is a good season. But, the measuring stick is what Duke is doing down the road, and that makes this discussion challenging/different.

That was an embarrassment. And Stanford and Cal can't be forgotten. We HAD those guys then. Miami, too.

I hear ya, but during his 5 year span as the HC, the yearly NET finishes, AP rankings, NCAAT success, and Q1 record are all below the UNC standard. Nobody can dispute this.
I do think HD has done a good job managing the team and getting wins without key players this season.
With that said, if the season ended today we’d be a 6 seed at best. Why should the UNC program/fanbase feel good about that? Most people do not view our program as a legitimate title contender. That’s a problem.
We have 2 NCAAT wins since the miraculous run in 2022.
2023 - missed NCAAT and laughing stock of CBB
2024 - great season but disappointing S16 finish
2025 - last team granted bid in NCAAT. R1 loss
Q1 Record: 28-45 (38% win rate = abysmal)
By comparison, in Roy’s final 3 seasons, which was BY FAR his worst 3 season sample in his entire career, he won 40% of his Q1 games.
What are we doing here?
It’s not that hard to acknowledge 2 things can be true at once:
1) this season has been good (not great) and HD has earned the right to be the HC next season
2) during his 5 years as HC, the UNC brand and program has taken a hit and UNC has absolutely not lived up to the standard set by Dean/Roy.

Hubert Davis gets a lot of criticism, even from Carolina fans. He’s doing a good job though. This is his team. All his recruits. Winning without Caleb Wilson. Give him credit!
